My general theory is that I trust the HHN Creative to make any theme work, so I would be fine seeing them take a crack at metal/rock bands.. I just think it’s funny how people’s brains do mental gymnastics to ignore the benefits of significantly more relevant artists (like Billie or The Weeknd) coming to the event (who also happen to have great carryover themes within their music)
It's because those artists are new and tied to "pop" and therefore younger and less "scary"

It's funny because the event hasn't been scary since 2003

Gatekeeping is dumb, but gatekeeping gatekeeping is also kinda… dumb. Idk.
my personal feeling is this: not a fan of his music. (Him in particular, I like a lot of other synthy stuff with more overbearing horror themes)
I think that Abel as a person, just from what I’ve seen and read about them as obviously I’ve never met them, seems kinda obnoxious.
The horror stuff in his work is *alright* but I’m sure it’ll be a cool house because the horror nights team is dope.

I just personally feel that those same visuals could be used without a silly pop star being attached, and there are probably a dozen musical acts who fit better and would have an equally enjoyable house which leads me to this thought: it’s totally okay that most of the reason he is worked into the event is his immense popularity which should drive ticket sales. That’s the thing that puts him as a choice above somebody like carpenter brut, nine inch nails, Ghost, or any other musical act who maybe fits a little better. $$$ and it’s okay to admit that.

still gonna go through the house and hope to enjoy it. Alcohol should help. If not that’s cool too.I didn’t really dig the crypt tv stuff from last year but it was cool they gave it a shot. Hope others enjoy it. Just don’t be a tool to people.

Ashes

Saw them back in February this year with Twin Temple and Volbeat. As much as I'd love to see something, there's not a whole lot you could do with Ghost at an event that already had to tone down The Fallen a few years ago...

Kinda random, but what if they decide to bring in “musical acts” like they did in the 90s?

OMG BLOCKED AND REPORTED

Real talk, I still don't know what Crypt TV is lol

Also HHN is full of IPs that didn't quite click for whatever reason

Even some that they've given second attempts to and STILL didn't hit lol

If a house is bad, it's bad

You're right, I do find it funny when people with shot and mask emojis in their bio try to be the thought police though, always humorous and predictable

Nightmares sounds like they're close to releasing their last spec map and may include the leaked names.

If they do, at this point, it will be the leaked house map

Bring on the spec map, they are always fun, and keeps us going until we're back in the fog. Still 6 houses, SZs, and shows.

Glad to see the rest of the tickets are on sale, a lot of happy people on that front.

Mike is not involved with HHN anymore. His opinion on potential IPs is moot.

Looking at the replies to Abel's tweet of the house poster, and I think Universal hit the jackpot. Whole ton of fans who are curious now as to what the event is.

Going back to this, his tweet is now almost at 130k likes, and his Instagram post is at...

1.3 million likes.

Also, credit to MikePat for this- 'The Weeknd Halloween Horror Nights' is #3 on trending searches for Safari on iPhone.

It's almost as if they waited until the summer promotional period started to wind down to really push their headliner for HHN

the parameter i was going by is,
famous right now (Relevancy, mainstream/ marketing)
not too hard (attract non metal fans. attract teens)
or
mega huge fame where most people recognize them (from tv commercials or movies and popular culture)
and horror elements

i think Ghost kinda fits some of these. Gorillaz too. Gwar or cannibal corpse or slipknot are either too niche or too scary for teens or arent relevant right now with a new album.
but what you said is the final truth, if Creative likes the band they will make it work. as niche as it is.

A lot of - both the fans and haters - metal heads know who Cannibal Corpse are; they’re the biggest and most influential band in death metal. Hell, they were even in the first Ace Ventura movie. Slipknot on the other hand is much bigger, since they sold over 35 Million copies worldwide and had three number one albums on the Billboard 200.

I thought he wasn’t but then went back to being involved with it at some point. Murdy definitely seemed to imply that Mike is involved in a Q&A he did today. Mike was also talking a lot at the Spooky Empire panel they did last month where they talked about Halloween and Legends Collide.

Wasn’t Mike the moderator at Spooky Empire?

If Mike IS involved, it’s in an unofficial (more likely mentorship-type) capacity as he’s still officially part of Creative. Different departments.

I would guess he consults and gives feedback when asked, but it isn't his day-to-day.
