Alright, I’ll take another guess…The Goonies. Popular IP that doesn’t really belong at HHN but has horror-adjacent content. Would also headline the event and draw in a similar crowd that GB and BJ did.

Hmmm…I don’t think this is it, but I think you could be on the right track. Notice the pattern with “horror adjacent” IPs that HHN has done. Ghostbusters, Stranger Things, and Beetlejuice. What do they have in common? They’re 80’s properties. I imagine that whatever this “horror adjacent” and “divisive” property is will probably be an “80’s” IP. What 80’s IP can you think of that would be even less “horror” than BJ or GB?

As I said - it didn't seem like he was going to let y'all know whether you hit or not so... Let's try to dial it back a bit. That's a long list from @Tbad556 (doing the lord's work lol)

I’d hazard a bet the phrase ‘horror adjacent’ was used zero times on this forum prior to this speculation thread

The Goonies guess and this post actually got me thinking of an IP that fits the clues while also being such a different unexpected IP because it’s barely horror:

Blade Runner

I don’t know if that’s the one, but it would be divisive because it’s actually not very horror at all. It’s only “horror” if you think of it as a cyberpunk “Case Files Unearthed” with androids instead of monsters. From that perspective, it could actually work as a house.

It is a remarkably popular IP with two films (with the sequel director by the guy who did Dune) and a new series on Adult Swim.

Edit - And, it’s the 40th Anniversary of the release.

...and a comic book as well. Though, I will say that the sequel was seen as a fairly big flop (despite it being a phenomenal film).

I love the idea of a Blade Runner house, but would that IP really be as divisive as Billie Eilish? That’s maybe the part of the clue I get hung up on the most.

honestly at this point, I'm suspecting it can be Rick and Morty. think about it
  • really, REALLY popular with the public
  • many scenes they can use that have horror elements
  • will divide the hhn fandom because 1. it's not really horror and 2. it's an animated series, possibly making the artstyle look weird in haunt format.
  • and I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure merch of it is sold at Universal.

My bet is on Locke and Key
  • A teen drama.
  • Leans more fantasy and drama than supernatural horror IMO.
  • Hit top ten on Netflix.
  • Season 3 coming out this Year.

Isn’t a headliner IP popular with the general public. I had to Google search this one too - it isn’t universally known.

Possibly the dumbest idea speculated yet, but I'll throw it out there anyway since I didn't contribute to any of the other crazy ideas for non-horror house that many people will say doesn't belong at the event...

John Wick

It has the gravitas to headline an event, but clearly isn't horror. I don't even know if it's horror adjacent or not, but each movie has about 100 kills by the titular character alone. Sounds pretty horrific. They call Wick the Boogyman (Baba yaga) and he has plenty of signature kills (pencil, horse, library book, dog, car, motorcycle, shotguns, machine guns, about a dozen pistols, axe, assortment of knives, etc).

Definitely NOT horror, but loud gunshot scares and creative deaths could make for an entertaining house.

I think there's maybe a 0.01% chance of it actually happening, but just trying to think of something not really horror, yet has elements of horror (300ish on screen deaths in 3 movies) and is popular enough to headline an event. And yes, I realize how obvious of an answer it is for someone with Neo as their screen name :)

Reading comprehension isn’t this fandom’s strong suit because even though they said exactly 666 likes, people are trying to double that smh.

I'll say one thing. This is first time in a very, very long time I've seen this fanbase actually speculate! Take clues that are given and put IP's under a microscope to figure out what might be the closest to the answer. Most times the community is simply throwing stuff out randomly or being directly told by insiders about stuff. This is so much nicer and I appreciate it.
