Clue two will give you the fifth IP you are looking for.

Not sure why everyone is pretending it isn’t Evil Dead. (I’m assuming the Rise movie, but almost certainly that franchise.)

That's the real speculation right there, and to that I propose:

What if it's like Games of Jigsaw? Majority of it is a mashup of the original movies, 2013 film, maybe AveD (but they did it in 2017, so would they want to do it again?), then the final scenes are Rise.

EDIT: Or, actually, very good point made on Discord. HBO Max is hosting TLoU, and so since that's been delayed to next year, they offered Rise as a replacement for this year.

I missed on 2017’s AvED; as long as there’s Ash I’m on board… or Deadites… I just love Evil Dead

Like, clues have been pointing to EDR for months, and everyone is like “what could it be?”

I think the fact there is no trailer is throwing people. Frankly, a lot of fans have a hard time imagining something they can’t immediately see showing up at HHN.

For me, it's more along the lines of, "They can't possibly have two Evil Dead houses based on movies without Ash, can they?"

Granted, they had the Ash vs Evil Dead house, but that was the TV series.

It would be like doing Halloween III twice and never having Michael Myers at the event.

It's having an iconic IP come to the event without the icon themself.

I also think people are forgetting there was also the case of The Wolfman, where the house came out 4-5 months before the film was actually released.

I will say, I think there's a possible larger future with HBO for the event.

I mean, I disagree. The character focus of a haunted house is not the protagonist… it’s the antagonists. The purpose of The Evil Dead, as haunted houses, is to focus on Deadites.

In Halloween, Michael Myers is the antagonist, so IS a required focus in the franchise of a haunted house.

Can this line of thought also apply to The Walking Dead houses? I know there wasn’t really any famous human characters from the show in any of the houses, but the zombies were the antagonist making them the priority.

So with that in mind we can call the house Evil Dead and as long as Deadites are used does it really matter which movie they follow? They could just use the characters for a different spin on the story that works for the house

So all this “Secret IP” ruckus was about something that was literally on the spec map?

No wonder these threads get overloaded.

Not saying I disagree, I don’t, but to play devil’s advocate for a minute and throw a counter point out there, the main draw of slasher films in particular is the villains. You’re watching a Halloween movie for Micheal not Lorrie or a Scream movie for Ghostface not Sydney. So of course houses based on slasher would and should be focused on the antagonist, that’s what the draws of the films are to begin with. On the other hand the main draw of the Evil Dead’s is Ash not the deadites. So at least from a marketing perspective it would be wise to use Ash as the house draw because that’s who the public wants to see not the Deadites.

Why do you think the insiders never really acknowledged the whole “secret IP” discussion?

Ash was the appeal of the original trilogy. The only consistent aspect of the franchise is the Deadites and the Necronomicrom. Not Ash.

Right but let me ask you, honestly, do you believe that more people are going to want to see Deadites or Ash?

Yes - Source: Me, I want to see it

But to be technical about it, the franchise is doing pretty well numbers wise. A niche Evil Dead game just released and greatly out preformed expectations. Dead by Daylights player count more than doubled this year, increasing exposure to the character and franchise. Ash Vs Evil Dead got more popular on Netflix than it ever was on Starz. There's a new movie coming out. It has a strong cult following and is a well regarded untapped IP. Its really a good time for them to do it and we know that there's been an interest in doing Evil Dead based concepts for sometime at HHN.

Evil Dead is such a weird Ship of Theseus property. Army of Darkness suggest Ash and its goofy humor are the draw, not the Cabin in the Woods/Deadite horror, but the remake does a 180 and centers the gore and horror in the woods, removing Ash entirely. Ash vs. Evil Dead tries to reconcile by going back to an Evil Dead 2 tone of humor and horror, but now Evil Dead Rises seems to be removing Ash, removing the cabin setting, and maybe the humor again? Considering there's not even a trailer yet, I'm not surprised people are having a tough time wrapping their heads around Evil Dead Rises, its not clear what exactly makes it Evil Dead yet.

I'm curious to see how it turns out and don't mind it coming, but it's extremely funny there will have been three (3.5 if you count Silver Screams) Evil Dead houses at the event after this year and none of them are just an The Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 adaption, which is what I imagine most fans want.

Overall I'm getting HHN27 vibes from the lineup, one real headliner and a grabbag of IPs that are fine, but pretty uninspiring (funny both years may have a Blumhouse and Evil Dead house as well!). Hoping either their execution surprises, or this opens the door for some of the originals to completely steal the show again the way Scarecrow did in 2017.

Long term lurker here.

Evil dead is pretty much two separate franchises at the moment- goofy horror fun with ash in the TV show and serious horror regarding the remake.

To be honest I'd rather ash wasn't at HHN, I prefer the horror aspect of the remake than the TV show which is more comedy.

If its evil dead rises it should just be the deadites

Because both movies are like 88% one big cabin room with a few action/scare scenes. Rise supposedly has an entire building to play with, so will likely fit a lot better into a haunted house.
[Clarification: Not me dunking on ED. I love ED2]

I can't really argue whether or not Rise is a better fit until I actually see something from it, but nah, I don't think its due to a lack of material. After all, they've already adapted the remake and with houses like The Exorcist and movies like Happy Death Day/Black Phone in the mashups, they're not afraid to get creative when presenting repetitive material.

I think it's mostly just due to timing/rights whenever they wanted to utilize the property. They couldn't secure Army of Darkness at 19, remake was a replacement IP because they couldn't get the rights for something else, and Ash vs. Evil Dead may have been the only rights available for the franchise in 27 for cross-promotion angle with the show. I'd buy that's simply the case again again with Rise, or the speculation that HBO/Warner offered it as a replacement for a Last of Us delay. A movie with zero promotional material available doesn't seem like how they usually select houses unless its part of building a relationship with another company.
