Sounds like all of these factors should have led them to design a less complex show than even WOC, given the constraints of the location.

Instead, they're shoving into the location something that shouldn't really be there.

There is no major body of water in WDW fit for a WoC style platform (unless you count Echo Lake or Fantasmic’s Moat). I don’t know why that is so hard for people to understand after all of these years and being told that multiple times.

Also, World of Color style shows don’t work as a 360 show, really at all.

If they can build Crystal Lagoons they can build a lake they can pump.

Because that would require them to reshape the islands to create new, utilitarian looking docks, destroying their look, while barely, if at all, concealing the barges. Then you have ugly islands, and still bad views of WS Lagoon.

Edited to Add, the only place I could think that would work would be up against the American Gardens Theater, but even that would only hold 3/5 barges.

Maybe they could just put up a big metal box and park them in there? Metal boxes are so in vogue right now.

I kinda don’t know if I’d mind the islands getting utilitarian docks considering the route they chose.

In fairness (not that I'm in favor of docking the barges at the islands), I think Disney has just shown us that they don't care about things looking ugly in the lagoon, nor about creating bad views.

Seems we have an Ops vs Entertainment (or whatever they call it) situation

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that someone said "that will be ugly" along the way

To be fair to ops, the drawbridge being up for an hour is absolutely not something that can be negotiated. It's not feasible at all.

So they widen the bridge (huge cost) and make it easier to navigate then screw the backstage views with the convoluted channel? Could cut the time down to mere minutes

It wouldn’t need to be widen, it would need to be heightened. By a lot. And that requires a gradual slope up to the bridge with a run of at least 10 feet for every 1 foot of rise. That sort of drastic change to the parks layout would essentially close 2 pavilions and equal the cost of a new land.

Yeah... believe it or not, given the situation all parties were in favor of leaving them parked.

Well, I mean, it really seems like they had no choice. There's no way they were leaving the bridge open for so long every single day. But I think it just shows that this show was either poorly designed/not well enough thought out or they picked the cheaper show out of the possibilities when they were choosing the Illuminations replacement and this is the price we have to pay due to that. I remember hearing the other option on the table was much better.

What I think it really shows is that it was probably designed by folks who don't spend much time in Epcot.

Possibly. But there is WDI offices right there at Epcot so i'm not willing to even give them that yet. I'd almost be happier if it was designed by folks who don't spend a ton of time at Epcot though bc if this WAS designed by people who spend time around Epcot, then it only makes it worse for me.

I was under the impression that WDW projects (for the most part) were still designed by California-based Imagineering teams. But I guess I could be wrong!

Imagineering may well be working underground in a bomb proof bunker, and designing projects, like Harmonious, with the same 'world has ended and Mad Max has arrived' appropriate look. In their Bizarro World, Ugly has now become beauty. ;)

It certainly seems that way. Look at how perfectly Princess and the Frog will fit at Disneyland compared to how out-of-place it will feel at Magic Kingdom.
