The 40-year-old, 1,054-room hotel at 8001 International Drive is part of the planned $100 million, 42-acre I-Shops retail redevelopment project. It’s slated to start by the fall, led by Orlando-based Unicorp National Developments Inc. The plan is to demolish nearly 300 of the Wyndham’s hotel rooms to make way for the retail portion of the I-Shops project.
Unicorp will start building more than 50,000 square feet of meeting space and renovate the other hotel rooms on the south part of the Wyndham property during the next 12 months.
A new hotel room tower will be added within the next 24 months. The new tower, which will be connected to the new convention space, will be a full-service hotel that may feature spas, formal restaurants, coffee bars and more.
Construction plans also show a new 5,400-square-foot lobby will be built in the middle of the 42-acre parcel, replacing the entrance that now fronts Sand Lake Road.
