Great photos, thanks for sharing, Bob! I am personally very excited about this new area. The Orlando Eye will definitely become one of Orlando's best icons.

Wow this project is moving right along. Funny the pace of construction seems to be pretty swift compared to what Disney is doing these days

Is this an adjustment point? It looks like a manual screw actuator thingy. Great pics Bob.

^ You are correct. They are used to adjust the length of the legs. This will allow you to level the main shaft in both directions.

What is this "Wyndham Tower"? I searched the i-cyber-surf-internets and could find nothing about it.

Wyndham is going to be redoing their convention space as well as adding a tower with an 'undisclosed amount of stories' in the future, as part of the iShops parcel.

From the Unicorp Website:

The 40-year-old, 1,054-room hotel at 8001 International Drive is part of the planned $100 million, 42-acre I-Shops retail redevelopment project. It’s slated to start by the fall, led by Orlando-based Unicorp National Developments Inc. The plan is to demolish nearly 300 of the Wyndham’s hotel rooms to make way for the retail portion of the I-Shops project.

Unicorp will start building more than 50,000 square feet of meeting space and renovate the other hotel rooms on the south part of the Wyndham property during the next 12 months.

A new hotel room tower will be added within the next 24 months. The new tower, which will be connected to the new convention space, will be a full-service hotel that may feature spas, formal restaurants, coffee bars and more.

Construction plans also show a new 5,400-square-foot lobby will be built in the middle of the 42-acre parcel, replacing the entrance that now fronts Sand Lake Road.

A few more pieces have been erected . . .

FalconsFury-152.jpg

They have to get this side erected so they can complete the terminal building. You see, the two inner legs are inside the building when completed.

We just drove by as it was getting dark and they were assembling the piece for the top of the tower. I'm assuming they'll raise it into place tomorrow at some point.

Of course :). And while we're on the subject, I think the way they did the exterior renovation on the Rosen Center makes it look really legitimate now. It demands attention and takes everybody's eyes off the Hyatt while you're driving down I4.

If interested, here's a video of the hotel being lit up. Dave and Busters also has the same style of lighting. I wonder if the iDrive Live complex will follow suit. This gives I-Drive as a whole a pretty unique identity. I wonder if it's just a trend or something encouraged by the city.

So, people will visit this location to ride the wheel and visit the wax museum? Is there anything else to draw people in?

Hm, the very first time I visited Orlando, I stayed at this hotel. Back then, it was called the "Omni Rosen".

Hopefully this puts into perspective how tall these A-frames really are. They're taller than anything at Universal Orlando at this point.
Taken from the Pointe Orlando garage this morning.

^ Nice shot!

They have removed the top section again. Must need a little fitting.

That's funny, because that is what we have been calling it anyway.
