You know, it just occurred to me: VelociCoaster will be America's very first highly-themed thrill coaster. Heck, it's actually the first highly-themed thrill coaster in the entire Western Hemisphere!
Now, you may argue that coasters like Hulk or Hagrid's or some of Cedar Fair's more recent creations are highly themed, but think about it. Name one coaster in North or South America that has the level of theming that Hagrid's or the coasters in Phantasialand (FLY, Taron, Baron 1898) has that involves inversions. Okay, Mystery Mine at Dollywood, but that's a terrible ride
I can't think of any major *good* coaster with inversions that has any dark ride scenes or intricate theming that this has or some of the European parks have. VelociCoaster might be bigger for the American coaster industry than we realize.
I could very easily be wrong, but I wonder if they wanted to see how successful Hagrid's would be before they would greenlight a coaster with that level of theming but with more thrills? I guess they saw Hagrid's success as feeling more comfortable to build something in that calibur with bigger thrills.
If VelociCoaster is successful and is at least fairly reliable, I wonder if more parks like Cedar Fair will be open to investing in rides like this; I wonder if Universal will be open to investing in more coasters like this. I know USH has a lot of restrictions, but if it's successful enough, they can probably find some way to pull it off at USH in some way (Of course not like VelociCoaster). That is, of course, assuming things turn around next year.
