Yes the park closes at 8. That means that rides, restaurants, and shops will all close. The concert still happens though at 8:30 I believe. The stage area will be packed regardless. But the rest of the park should be manageable.

It probably won't be as bad as when I went to see Leonerd Skynerd there. It was packed shoulder to shoulder. It was chaos! I got hit in the face! Hahaha.

I know Trey Songz is fairly popular with a lot of people I know so I think a good chunk of people will be watching the concert. I'm just going for the parade since I only know a few of his songs.

How much would it cost to visit both parks and see Mardi Gras?

A standard 1 day 2 park ticket is $123. FL resident may be a little cheaper but thats the most it would cost.

Steve Miller was ok (they were better 13+ years ago when I used to see them yearly), smoking was crazy at the concert, so doubt DH will allow us to go to any more. Which sucks because I wanted to see Matchbox 20 and All American Rejects. I do plan on being there this weekend for the Days event and will stay to see them on the floats. Wish I realized this before I would have tried to get on the float and maybe get to meet them behind the scenes... oh well. My son will be with me and I would have had to convince the husband to watch both kids and I doubt that would have happened. I am only getting away with it this weekend because my daughter and husband are sick and therefore we wanted to separate me and my son from them :) I will leave once the parade is done, but will be in the handicapped section with a double stroller and only one child if anyone wonders by there, say hi I had to promise I would sit in the handicapped section for the parade (no smoking was present there this last time) and leave right afterwards. Really had no desire to see the concert anyways. Not sure what I will do outside the days events since I have my son and can't do rider swap with just me. May do some shows that DH never does like Disaster and Horror Makeup show.

I may call in sick tonight and go  Just look for the guy in the button up black shirt with the fluer de lune on the front...i think that's what that symbol is called  I'll probably watch the parade from in front of the Ralphs sign on Hollywood BLVD. :look: That's if I decide to go. I agree with everyone though. Even though I occasionally smoke (i know I'm deplorable) I stick to the smoking areas. Thats what they are there for.

Let me say that Trey Songs was crazy good. Him and his band were amazing. His vocals were on point and his performance was excellent. He sounded like he would on the radio. Overall, awesome event.

Has anyone else noticed that it gets very tight up in the Despicable Me area during the parade?

I've noticed some weak attempts at crowed control (they do the tape and arrow things) but nothing Disney style with clearly defined walkways and cross overs that are properly staffed.

Universal is just not good at parade crowd control. I think it has to do with them being newer to the parade thing, their route being shorter, and having so many seasonal parades. They just can't be staffed as well as Disney who does the same parades every day for the last 20 some years. When I was at Mardi Gras I could not find an employee if I wanted to. When I am at Disney I feel like I am tripping over them.

Yea but Disney uses their attractions team members. How hard would it to have one or two people from each attraction step out to the street. I know they'd have to schedule it, but the seasonal parades take place at the end of the day so their mid people could be scheduled extra.

Oh, I think they could do something about it. Not saying it is impossible, but I think with all those factors they don't tackle it. Also, Disney in general has a lot of "extra" employees. There was 8 employees in front of the land to stop people with strollers. A group of 5 under the umbrella, 1 at the top of the ramp, and two right inside the doors. We were joking about it because of the crowd of 5, 3 tried to stop us and when we got past them we could hear another guy behind us say, "sir" and then another employee stopped him from coming after us. Disney just seems to like to overkill stuff and I think that allows them to pull extra people from a ride. I don't see those extra employees at Uni as much.

Universal also has a very large aversion to paying overtime, whereas Disney hands it out like candy on Halloween.

Was anyone else there for Matchbox Twenty? Such a good concert, surprisingly so.

LOL He does sweat quite a bit! My sister and i got there at 9:30 and went to the matchbox twenty wait line and sat all day. Im still a bit burnt, and an itchy peely mess. Id been a huge fan for a long time so the all day wait was worth it. I managed to go to the bathroom at a great time because i walked out to the EXTRA interview and got to meet him before returning to my sister in line. It was a bit annoying that we sat all day and yet when it was concert time people just pushed through to the front. The workers would yell out "single file, one at a time" but that did not happen. Anyways we managed to be 3rd row from the stage so we were still very happy. They brought out like 10 towels and sat them down. I guess they were trying to prepare for his sweating. A couple of times i saw him pull his shirt away from his chest and lip out "Its so hot!" eventually that vest came off. That day still has me on cloud 9 though. Amazing performance from them!

haha, I noticed at one point how much he was sweating and thought it was pretty funny. I'm actually gonna see them in Tampa this summer for real with the Goo Goo dolls (I didn't really get to see them too much this past week, even though I was there the whole time). I'm expecting lots of sweat.
