From Parckscope sean via twitter

"FWIW Martin Smith is reiterating that Uni got LOTR."

I'm being tweeted about now??!

I didn't confirm anything. But obviously there's more than just a passing interest in the IP.

Your post on Magic was a little confusing, then. You said Uni getting LOTR "wasn't a rumor".

Exactly what I said on the last page. I was/am very confused.

If Toon Lagoon gets the ax along the line, I'd be upset. If they go through with the Middle Earth plans, the whole project would be a yawn to me. Yet ANOTHER book property on site to go with the three we already have. Seuss, Marvel, Jurassic, and Potter. That'd give me a headache. I don't care what comes out of the project, it would still color me upset. I guess with all this speculation going on and the property acquirement its all but confirmed. Gets a long sigh from me.

Islands of Adventure is books, so that makes a lot f sense.

Someone sould really make a Downfall Hitler video with Disney losing Lord of the Rings and raiing ticket prices.

Gotcha. Nothing's sealed as far as I know but interest has been shown. Hence more than a rumour.

The CURRENT area of Lost Continent is probably too small, but there is room for expansion both on the lagoon side as well as on the other side (backstage areas). Backstage there is what I have been told is the fiberglass shop and a parking area along with other support buildings which could easily move to make more space:

The support building you speak of is actually one of the more important buildings. You'd need to find a new and better home for them before they'd be willing to up and move.

I agree it would be cool, but what your calling for would be a pretty significant over haul to the back of house areas.

And I'm sure that's part of the reason for adding the parking garage (and probably more on the way) which could easily allow for building new/expanded support facilities (which are already DESPERATELY needed with the current expansion and the plans for the future). There are smart people running Universal right now who I'm sure must be looking at every square foot of land and trying to make the most out of it. With things like support facilities there is no reason they can't be moved.

Especially when Lost Continent is as small as it is  those backstage areas would near double its current space! Comcast is going to build more than one employee parking garage so that they can maximize their space.

The trick would be how to hide the backstage buildings and the HE track. A Mt. Olympus facade would be a nice addition and it could build up to the E-ticket show building (a POTC-style boat ride using AAs and projections would be PERFECT!) Really, there's enough room to add a thrilling flat ride (maybe a pirate ship?) as well if they use their space wisely.

Anyone hear any further rumblings regarding this rumor?

I'm very curious to see exactly who's doing what.

Is there any relevance to this comment?

The context of Teebin's post was that somebody mentioned LoTR as an IP as deserving of as much theme park love as Potter.

Suspicious, in my opinion LOTR shouldn't be in islands but instead the 4th gate. As manhamanha said above if it has to be in islands a boat ride to replace posiedons fury would be pretty awesome. I know people want toon lagoon to be replaced by LOTR but think about that for a second, 3 islands out of 6 will be fantasy themed (not counting POE but then again that's fantasy based) that is a ton of fantasy and they will all be right next to each other. That and does toon really have the rides and space to make LOTR, the most expansive world in literature? A flume ride and a rapids ride? You could argue they would be demolished but then again that's taking down 2 major rides and then building from scratch or a retheming, the ladder would probably fit. I rather have the fantasy island replace a fantasy island or better yet wait for the third gate

If LOTR came to replace TL, everything except Popeye would be bulldozed  none of it could really be retrofitted for Middle Earth except the barrel rapids replacing Popeye. The theater would likely be bulldozed for a family dark ride or an actual yearround show that doesn't leave right away. Dudley would likely be torn down since it's been left unfinished for years, and replaced with some sort of lavish E-ticket. I could also see a Baggins walkthrough, and some sort of flat ride as possibilities.

speaking of LOTR show wasn't there one planned for the FFL area at one point? Hmm I can see that, The only reason I would want TL to close (PS I don't) would be to use that theater

Well, the problem with the FFL area is that now Harry Potter fanatics (and even just theme park fanatics) are saying that it's gonna be an apparently necessary addition to the latest Wizarding World addition..

Definitely not but I think it was planned to have a stunt show there then when the rights failed they went to fear factor. Also I honestly can't take more potter, hopefully that show is replaced with another show
