Yea, this is about right, seemingly. They went to Nintendo with a pretty detailed pitch. The time since that is hammering out the final details

If I recall correctly, Satoru Iwata (may he rest in peace) said in an official press release that the first pitch was in April 2014.

Or to bring up some good old USF nostalgia and have a perfect crossover on some merchandise (Ghostbuster Luigi Amiibo anyone?)..........

Obviously this is just fan art but you get the idea.

Going off my previous post here I've since thought of more possible resort exclusive Amiibo figures going by the ones that have been released.
Mario - Marty McFly
Doctor Mario - Doc Brown
Donkey Kong - King Kong
Yoshi - Velociraptor
Pikachu - Minion
Edit: Kirby - E.T. (Basically him wearing an E.T. hat like when he copies people in Smash)

I don't know how their contracts with third parties work but here's other ideas.
Luigi - Ghostbuster
R.O.B. - Optimus Prime
Zero Suit Samus - MIB Agent
Bowser - Godzilla (if only they would just get the rights already....)

Amiibo has been very successful and you know collectors would go crazy for these. Ironically I don't own a single one but I still would love to see these lol.

wasn't this project has been in some sort of development since 2014, no? Because if that's the case, then I have to think that if its opened in 2019; it'd be a project that takes 5 years. From negotiations to opening day, and that would..make some sense.

Given a company as stated by Rich, Nintendo (or any game company from Japan) likes to keep their aces close to them. Atleast here, it seems that they have Miyamoto on-board with the project heavily, and it could be good to assume that Thierry could be involved with the creation of the land, no?

It is all going to depend on whos in-charge for the development. As to be honest; I can easily see Coup be the head for this project, to work close with Shigeru on how its executed, much like how Coup worked heavily with WB and JKR to bring Potter up and running, it can easily work out well.

We also have to expect that Nintendo in circumstance, will be as protective if not more, then how JKR was with Potter and the implementation of her IP in the parks.

Although, that's just my personal opinion on how Nintendo could be handled, as they are a very, very, VERY protective company in every aspect.

Less Thierry, more Surrell.

I was about to say with Coup most of his stuff relies on screens so it wouldn't make sense for him to be the lead

Yeah, Coup is a master of screen-based attractions, but he's very narrow-minded in that that's pretty much all he tends to focus on.

Isn't he the former Disney imagineer that was posting on WDW Magic and had a meltdown with all kind of wild postings? Any Magic poster's here know more about that? I didn't see the postings but I'm often reading posts that allude to that.

Coup is the main reason why there's been so many screens.

Eddie Soto is the only (former) imagineer that's had a thread on Magic anytime recently that's been forthcoming about it, at the very least.

No, he (Sorrel)didn't have a thread, he was just posting as an individual. I remember reading some of them. He was doing comeback posts against people that were criticizing WDW management. But I never ran into any of his alleged comments where he had , what they were referring to, a meltdown. Something about his domestic situation (comment of some sort) also was alluded to concerning the meltdown.

Yea...that was an interesting time.

Surrell also wrote a lot of the WDI books.

Had no idea he was working on the project. Interesting

Wait, was he the guy with the Goose or whatever as his avatar? Because if he was I do remember him.

I don't remember his Avatar but he did use his name. I only remember some of his posts where he got pretty upset with the people that criticized Disney management. But, as I said before, I never saw the alleged meltdown posts. I thought it was quite ironic that he supported Disney so strongly and then either was fired or forced to resign. Then he got quickly hired by Universal in a kind of a secondary role. A really strange situation.
