I've been to Disneyland twice now and its just nostalgia for me. Its just too damn contested, I cant stand it.

I'm still not sure this project will make me want to set foot in Animal Kingdom unless it's under 82 degrees for the high.

I thought I was the only one who thought this. They need a better use of cool zones and fans. It's a funky, cramped park in the summer. Avatar is definitely needed to draw me in, and probably the thing I'm looking forward to most.

And I'm aa constant victim of auto correct as well.

The Oasis has no water cooled fans at all... not even dry fans. That is the hell hole. I have stood in there pondering the design at 98 degrees until it looked as if I had fallen into the river. It took me a while to figure out I should save my AK pondering for winter.

The park was designed back when they never expected the capacity they face daily nowadays.

There are just so many narrow paths and walkways that have never been opened up to handle the load it really really bogs down.

I find myself having to watch where i walk more than take in the sights.

Edit: Still love the rides though!

Yes, like IOA, they could never handle the stroller brigade like WDW's Magic Kingdom does. Disneyland is local traffic heavy rather than tourist traffic heavy. Just another reason Universal will never put a bunch of family/kids under 7 rides in IOA. The pathways could never handle the heavy tourist oriented stroller traffic.

The only park ever really designed to handle large amounts of guest traffic was Epcot. Which is odd, considering Epcot wasn't projected to get the crowds it had/has but rather be grown over many decades - so they built the infrastructure huge.

I remember reading in one of the Disney books (can't recall which one now) that when Disney opened Epcot they received a ton of complaints from guests that the park was too large, and required too much walking. Therefore, when the opened their next park, MGM, they did Main St. to the Chinese Theater just about the same distance as Disneyland's Main St. to the Castle. Myself, I like all the space in Epcot. World Showcase is pretty decent. They need to fix the front of the park and change the theme though.

Most of what you'll read on what decisions they made for MGM based on Epcot feedback are actually fabricated lies.

"EPCOT Center is a failure" was a narrative certain powers that be needed within the company. It's one of the most successful theme parks in the world and pretty much prints money - it has days where attendance outpaces MK.

So just keep that in mind any time you read statements along those lines.

I just went to both resorts and I find Disneyworld more enjoyable than Universal. Disneyworld has this vibe that Universal will never have. I can't explain it. The employees seem happier at Disneyworld. Universal wants everything to be "thrilling" and fast paced which gets old and annoying.

I have talked to quite a few people with relatives working in the parks that seem to think that universal has been treating employees better recently. I would believe that based on my experiences in both parks,

Better is an understatement when it comes to their regular permanent employees. They did there best to be loyal in their bad years even. But now, they are treated as near golden as long as they play by the rules and do their jobs super duper.

you guys are crazy i know lots of people who work at Disney hate it and prefer universal even to the point of quitting their jobs at Disney to switch.Hell Disney just added more blackout dates to their entrance ids so they cant enjoy the parks as often.

Everything backstage costs less (food, snacks, stuff) and stuff like scheduling and attendance are handled by human beings, not computers and rule books.

At Disney there's a constant reminder that a million people want to replace you and you are endlessly expendable. At Universal there's a reminder that your job is important and you're the one who has it, so don't farfanoogin it up.

I happen to work at a company that values employees in a market that does not. We are taking of the high end business and are experiencing exponential growth. I have to feel that the Disney just increase prices for share holders vs the we will buy what we want Comcast money has accelerated this change.

Yep, having worked at both, I can definitely attest to this. And CM/TM food is wayyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper at Uni.

One of the most interesting things I read comparing Disney to Universal for staff was about the parking. If you work at Magic Kingdom, you park at Disney Springs and driving was ridiculous recently during construction so everything took longer than normal. You then need to wait on a bus to take you to the park and you're not paid any extra for it, some times arriving well more than an hour before you start. After a long day you return to your car an hour after your shift has finished and you car has been lying in the sun all day, making it a sauna.

Universal, you're a 5min walk to the park and you're parked in a multi story car park.
