Don't forget how brilliant Disney has been with updating Space Mountain with overlays and effects. THAT is how you utilize projections properly! Mummy could be greatly improved with new projection mapped effects during the coaster segment, some more fog blasts, and a whole new ending.

I've defended Mummy's ride time a few times now & I still stand by it... its really not THAT short compared to a lot of other coasters. However, one of the things that bothers me the most, besides the underwhelming ending (wish I could've experienced the original ending)... is the unthemed tunnel of doom between the finale & load/unload platform.

Knowing Murdy helped create this ride, the unthemed tunnel is totally him... its the exact same thing as the plain black walls of nothingness for mazes at HHN.... would it really have been too much to ask for a creepy Egyptian tomb-like crypt theming? They could easily squeeze one more scene into the ride if they themed this holding area.... even if the cars have to sit there & wait for Mummy's ridiculously SLOW operations to load/unload the vehicles... having SOMETHING (theming, videoscreen effects, hangy crap, etc) in this tunnel would make a major difference.

Updating the effects is necessary, to an extant... Honestly, I'd love to see some Egyptian ruins amongst the track with a slight glow to see them, but not take away from the darkness. Give Mummy a proper ending & theme the holding tunnel... it'd really improve it.

What was the original ending? I've noticed that there's scenery in the final room but it's obviously far too dark/foggy to see any of it.

Basically it was a bright scene with the eclipse and Imhotep "disintegrating" in the sky with meteorites and fire balls falling (HD projection on a mini dome above us), with faux fire all around, and a fog blast. It was really cool.

And why exactly did they change it? This one looks way better and actually makes sense.

Their excuse to the public regarding the new ending we have now was that it was "darker" and "cooler"/colder.

The actual reason that I've heard from inside sources many times over the years? The projections/projector for the dome above you kept failing a lot, one of the reasons being that the footage was stored on a hard disk drive that failed a lot due to the vibrations from the building. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate but that's what I've always heard and it would make sense. Very unfortunate.

But with that footage from 2004 now being able to fit on a 200GB microSDXC solid state flash card the size of your fingernail in 2015, there are no excuses for Universal IMO...they have to update that pathetic ending, which literally has this reaction every time I ride "wait...that's it?" or "hu? What?".

Imhotep's "The Eclipse! Noooooooooooooooooo" made me laugh more than it probably should...

The finale & holding tunnel both need to receive a major upgrade.

^ Not sure why after so many years they would change it. The only real change will come once the whole thing gets knocked down.

It'd be safe to assume that the only thing that will change for Mummy is its existence here at USH.

Its famously or in-famously called "The Bathroom". You're correct about it not being themed, I believe this was due to budget cuts. But the next time you go on the ride, you will see at least two cut outs in the ceiling above the vehicle (if these weren't already filled in at a later date, I haven't been on ROTM in a while). These were made so lighting fixtures would project a gobo on the track right side wall. But that was even cut as well.

Are you talking about after the ride vehicle is dispatched? This is Scene 1 "Holding" and there is (or was) a video projection at the track right upper wall area of the scarab beetles.

Not sure who gave you that info about the projector's video server failing. The video server is located in the main rack room far away from the projector. All the servers are stacked on top of each other, in a professional rack mount installation. If this was the case, no other projectors would work.

The two main reasons were the effects in that room weren't safe for the guests. The faux fire, "exploding" LN2 cannons, and LN2 from the track left and right were all safety concerns. Plus the ending never fit and guests had no clue what was going on. It didn't fit the ride and/or make sense to many so the new ending (which is the current ending) was created.

^ that's just what my sources have always told me for years, it was a similar story from different people, but hey if it's not true, okeedoky! But your reasoning is rather silly too, even if it's true. There have been many attractions with LN2 and similar effects. How was it unsafe? Also...they still have LN2 blasts in the current ending. How was faux fire unsafe? And how did the original ending not fit...? We see a partial solar eclipse cut out above the loading area. And it's mentioned/hinted at in the tomb queue footage.

Wanna talk about guests not knowing what's going on? Every single time (and this is not me exaggerating) I've been on the ride since the new ending, I always here "what? Hu? That's it? What was that?" and other phrases of confusion from guests, including my own friends and family. It's bad...

The holding area I was referring to was the area between the finale & load/unload... the unthemed blank hallway of doom we have to sit in while we wait to get off the ride.

And yea... I don't know how this new ending of the ride is not confusing. And honestly, for those who don't wait in the actual queue wouldn't know anything about the eclipse for the original ending. The eclipse story is poorly handled. Same goes for Orlando's "filming" storyline... unless you have to actually wait in the overflow queue, you don't have any "behind the scenes of the this new mummy movie being filmed" queue video action in the actual tomb-themed queue. So Brendan Fraiser talking about an interview is a little random at the end of the ride, however is at least amusing when he gets attacked.

Eitherway... Both USH & Orlando failed with their Mummy storylines for the ride to an extant. Orlando however at least provides a story plot device DURING the actual ride "Look for the Medjai symbol, its your only hope!" ....and then at the end of the ride, Imhotep tries one last time to suck out our souls but instead the Medjai symbol appears in all of its fiber-optic glory saving us at the last minute.

USH needs to have the whole Eclipse plot DURING the ride somehow... but this was Murdy's project & storytelling execution isn't exactly his strong point at times.

Its funny to see how much you guys like to critique, but have no clue as to anything but the contrary. It all comes down to money, and not everything in life is just that. You need to have some suspension of disbelief. Sometimes you just need to take it for what it's worth. ROTM is not going to change... if anything it will be removed as it has already been slated for very soon. So enjoy the time that it's there. :P

Let's be respectful to everyone's opinions.

Does Universal formally announce when rides are closing? I actually like this ride and would like to go on it before it closes (if/when it does).

The only three "major" closures that had atleast something was BTTF, T2 and HOH (Although, HOH didn't have the announcement the way that BTTF did it.

No, Universal didn't do anything with Terminator or House of Horrors.

Announcements are usually made on the attraction page a few weeks before an attraction closes.

All I'm saying is that it's slated to be removed in the "near" future... ;)
