Who said anything about Nintendo?

There's some tech used first in this attraction, the purpose being to perfect the technology before being used on something more with more visibility. I nearly spit out my water when I saw it mentioned a few pages back.

I'm late to this info, and the discussion, but doesn't it seem risky to base an attraction on a film franchise that hasn't even launched yet? What if it bombs?

As has been discussed, they still have a high tech dark ride with animatronics that kids will still love.

The more fresh a movie is, the higher the potential merchandise sales a new ride will bring. The longer you wait to build a ride after the movie, the more the hype would have died down.

The talk about Pets being a "test" of sorts for Nintendo is interesting. You wouldn't build a brand new ride to test a technology. You can do mockups much quicker + cheaper for that.

It seems like the testing would occur on the operational / marketing side. Universal can see how certain elements work at scale and how people respond to marketing. That would take a while. I would assume you would want a full year to test under heavy crowds + prolonged use.

Also, it seems like Nintendo (with a Mario Kart ride?) would be a much more individual experience than the normal theme park ride. Does that mean that Pets will be more individualized than we expect?

FYI, I don't think Pets is a test for Nintendo, but Universal has done this before. Disaster was basically funded as a large scale test for the musion technology

Never would've imagined that! It always made more sense to me to test technologies as prototypes. After all, for Disaster, they had to build + spend for a lot more than just the Musion scene.

Plus if it isn't coming til 2018, that means only USH will receive it if the movie bombs. UOR will have plenty of time to back out last second now.

I really don't see the issue of the film being a flop. If this is going to be a high class dark ride that's fun for the whole family, then surely it would be strong enough to support itself irrespective of the film? I doubt the film will flop, its already got huge marketing, a great concept and can say its made by the same people that made Despicable Me which is a huge pull.

Personally love the idea of the film and the rumours of the ride. Got to use that theatre eventually, Studios getting 2 new attraction in 2017 and Nintendo in 18/19 it only seems right that Islands gets a ride in 2018 to keep balancing the parks. Hopefully the film and ride are a huge success so Universal do build it at Islands!

After seeing the trailer for it, I see very little chance of it flopping. This seems right in line with minions and could provide a nice little kid friendly addition to the universal catalogue

Even the toy craze right now includes pocket pets, Littlest Pet Shop, etc. This should sell tons of merch.

During the previews befor Star Wars the whole audiance where laughing out loud for this movie, unlike the Disney one that earned a few chuckles but nothing more. This movie can't fail. Did anyone ekse had the same experiance?

Is it alrady a done deal it's a trackless ride system? The movie previews show a lot of high rise buildings, not sure how of if they going to incorporate that. As always Universal will addapt a new story for the ride so maybe there is no need to go up.

Chubby puppies were popular this Christmas too. They have a whole pet aisle now at Toys r us in addition to animals being in other aisles that are more themed like in the Princes Aisle they have the Princess Pets.

I haven't gotten the Pets trailer anywhere yet, but I got the Zootopia trailer at SW and my audience was howling at it. The other trailers had no response (Civil War, Star Trek, BVS, X-Men).

From what it seems, IU is saying that also for the USH version so it wouldn't be hard to guess that more concrete information for their version has risen up.

At my showing there was no Pets trailer either. But the crowd went crazy for Zootopia. The sloth had everyone rolling.

It's almost like people respond to movie trailers differently based on location, time, make up of audience, and other trailers! Who'da thought!

I don't know how accurate this is, but screamscape is reporting that the Toon Lagoon theater land may be used for another project that's in the works for IOA and that SLOP may go to studios instead. What do you guys think?

Better fit. Knock down Shrek and put up a new building Transformers style. Unless they can use the existing building but I doubt since the ride is supposed to be two floors right?
