The Box office results are coming in, as SLoP has made some records in a sense..

This makes SLoP One of only 40 movies to break 100 million on its opening weekend. Anyone at Universal that was holding back to see how this did is now hitting the big button to turn on the green light.

I watched The Little Mermaid. I don't need a ride to retell me the story. Either a new storyline with the characters or introduce me to the world of the characters. There was no tour of Eric's castle or a chef trying to murder Sebastian. Yet, those were some cool parts of the movie that the ride could have shown. Again, an introduction to the world of Ariel or a new adventure.

So, I haven't seen SLoP but hope to. Then, I hope that the ride does what Minions does and that is to bring out a new storyline or way to import us into the world of the characters.

And they seemed to have run out of money at the end..... all I could think of was the classic Thumb Wars line ... "I escaped somehow.."

Now begins the waiting game on when construction (or in this case, demolition) will start.

An' on another note, looking at some other forums I have no idea why some people we're unsure if it was going to do well financially. It's Illumination, who I've mentioned before have a knack for making films that rake in the money. As someone else bluntly said, Illumination is "Marketing first, everything else second". (Which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for. A quick in and out popcorn flick? You're all set! Something a bit deeper/emotional?...I'd love for them to make one, but I don't see one in sight.)

Considering the Toon Lagoon theater isn't used for anything I think they should start demo later this year if not immediately. Nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing this ASAP.

Looking at it, the film has grossed over 145 million dollars when you count International numbers..

Probably just a partial opening. Studios do international openings on a number of different schedules. You can't really judge international box office until a month or two down the line.

My guess is that they are releasing this over the period of June to August, hence why it's small as of right now.

Anyways: I think the mini-land should be another island... Manhattan Island! And think about it: on the other side of Toon Lagoon? Skull Island! Put a hidden Kong in the NYC background on the Empire State Building (if you've seen SLoP, you'd notice how their NY skyline is distinctly different than USF/Marvel), and boom! Thematic cohesion.

The SLoP stylized version of the NYC skyline would make for a pretty cool facade for the ride. Wonder if they would secure the rights to blast the opening song of the movie by Taylor Swift in the area.

Universal owns the movie including the songs. They can do anything they want with it.

Maybe, but the main soundtrack should be Alexandre Desplat's insane jazzy score. I am obsessed with it, unlike the actual film itself.

I have a feeling Coup was only there if the budget machete came in due to poor box office receipts. Now that it's the other way around, the money firehose will blast him and his screens away.

Remember, Theirry and his Screentaculars are what put Universal on the map. Until then, Universal was the punk up the street pretending to be a world class theme park.

Have a little respect.

They can give the budget machete back to the HHN prop department now.

Personally saying, wasn't Coup apart of when DLP tried to get a waterpark up and that failed (AKA, Volcano Bay)?

He is an individual that shouldn't be put down in bad name, even though he does have a way with Screenz; he has redefined the technique many times. Plus, he has done practical attractions too so that's another thing to say.

Oh my gosh, have a little humor folks. I'm very glad at what Coup and Creative have done but it's time to stop being one-trick ponies.

Yep. we have lot's of respect for what TC has done, but SLOP cries out for a good dark ride with AA's, so I hope TC accommodates that family demographic that Orlando can use to balance the park, and stays faithful to the preliminary design we've seen.

That's exactly my point. We can be tongue-in-cheek every now and then. Walt Disney wasn't god, and neither is Thierry Coup. I think he could withstand a little ribbing.
