An outstanding opening weekend. 103 million. Highest opening for a non-sequel animated movie ever. Lets's get this going in Orlando, pronto.

Is it only animated or all movies (including live-action)? I seem to remember the record Inside Out set was for all movies, and I don't think anything surpassed that in the past year until this weekend.

Star Wars the Force Awakens holds the record for biggest box-office opening weekend at 248 million. Secret life of pets comes the number 35 if you include non animated movies. Keep in mind the record The Secret Life of pets hit was for a non-sequel animated movie.

Yeah I was only talking about non-sequels or original movies so TFA wouldn't count. Looking at this list, SLOP has the highest opening of original movies, animated or live-action. All of the others above it are sequels or film adaptations.

Kind of a small detail but that makes it even more impressive imo.

I guess movies like The Avengers and Deadpool are non-sequels so I guess it's not overall. Still hugely impressive though for animated.

Definitely...for something that isn't Pixar, Disney, or Dreamworks, I find it impressive...Illumination is making a name for themselves

They were based on existing properties though and The Avengers can easily be thought of as a sequel to all the MCU movies before it.

Inside Out took the crown for highest-grossing opening weekend for an original film, which means that the film is not a sequel or came from a prior existing intellectual property, before that the crown went to Avatar.

The Secret Life of Pets has taken that title. It includes both live-action and animation.

Remember, Theirry and his Screentaculars are what put Universal on the map. Until then, Universal was the punk up the street pretending to be a world class theme park.

Have a little respect.

Not that I’m fully disagreeing with you, but I’d argue the environments of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, plus smaller projects like Springfield, are as much (if not more) responsible for Universal’s new high quality reputation as the rides themselves occupying those lands.

I’d also argue that the USF of the 1990s was pretty damn world class, too, and IOA has been world class since the gates opened.

2004-2009 really hurt their image...many remember that time when they think of the parks unfortunately

Is an Orlando version meant to be a copy of the Hollywood one similar to how transformers happened?

And, SLOP had a very reasonable budget of apx. 75 million. Add in matching marketing costs and this movie is going to make a huge "theatrical" profit. Then there will be the home entertainment & merchandise profits. Big win for Universal.

Untrue! :fight:

Also I believe the rides would be somewhat identical on either coast. Its surroundings? Not so sure.

There are Disney fans who don't know why Potter is popular. We'll leave it at that.
