I think they should change the comic strip-themed main area into some sort of "Toon Marketplace." Then tie it together with Popeye, Pets, and Dudley by saying it's a city where cartoon characters meet up. Then if they ever want to replace Popeye/Dudley (the full-rides or just retheme the existing ones) they can shove in practically any hot new or classic cartoon property. I personally think they should keep the Popeye area/ride but replace Dudley with a SpongeBob subarea.

I think pets should be treated as kind of its own thing like Kong with Toon Lagoon proper (everything past the sign) being reserved for classic characters.

If they could redo Dudley with SpongeBob and get rid of that empty warehouse look it has though you can count me in. Something new would work too.

Well if it was me I would save all the DreamWorks properties like Shrek, Dragons, Panda, etc. for the third park. What classic characters did they get that are on the level of those I mentioned? They still make new shows with them. Also, as @AliciaStella pointed out, they already have Scooby walking around so do they already have the rights to him or are the walk around characters their limit of what they can do?

Classics include Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, Felix the Cat, Voltron, He Man, Casper, Richie Rich, Dudley, Dick Tracy, Where's Waldo, Gumby and much more.

Scooby-Doo I would think would be more well known than any of those and they already have him walking around.

I agree that Scooby-Doo would make a great attraction. I just don't know what the current status of rights Universal has to it

They only have Hanna Barbera Meet and Greet rights from back in the day which is why Scooby Doo is still in the park. I'm not sure if they can have a ride though.

If he is in the park doesn't that mean they have rights to use the character? The contracts for character rights can be so confusing.

As always, it depends on what the contract says. It also could be very expensive.

They should get those rights then.

Scooby-Doo Mystic Manor anyone?

With the amount of money they are giving to Warner Bros for licensing...they might as well just buy them out if they want to get Scooby Doo in the park.

As a reminder, there is a thread in the IOA folder called Future of Toon Lagoon that is covered many of these topics previously.

Warner Brothers is Time Warner. That's an awfully big company to buy to get some cartoon right. Also there's probably some antitrust issues involved there.

That's actually what I like about Frozen. It avoids the same mistake made by Mermaid.

I watched The Little Mermaid. I don't need a ride to retell me the story. Either a new storyline with the characters or introduce me to the world of the characters. There was no tour of Eric's castle or a chef trying to murder Sebastian. Yet, those were some cool parts of the movie that the ride could have shown. Again, an introduction to the world of Ariel or a new adventure.

So, I haven't seen SLoP but hope to. Then, I hope that the ride does what Minions does and that is to bring out a new storyline or way to import us into the world of the characters.

I'm willing to bet that Illumination's 2019 movie could be Pets 2, which would time perfectly with opening a new attraction.

I certainly hope we don't have to wait that long, but the timing would be good.

The sequel is probably (one of) their 2019 movies; they already have The Grinch scheduled for November 2018.

There's also a slot for Pets 2 in July 2018, which would coincide with USH's version, but who knows if they could get a sequel out so quick... unless they've been working on it already. ;)

Anyways: I think the mini-land should be another island... Manhattan Island! And think about it: on the other side of Toon Lagoon? Skull Island! Put a hidden Kong in the NYC background on the Empire State Building (if you've seen SLoP, you'd notice how their NY skyline is distinctly different than USF/Marvel), and boom! Thematic cohesion.

Toon Lagoon can remain with Popeye and Dudley.

The Box office results are coming in, as SLoP has made some records in a sense..
