Personally wanting, are we sure that they are going to have walls down by possibly this week? Just curious; as i'm just doubting it.

I swear they did this with Belle too. Not sure about little mermaid, but I remember guests being pulled in for Belle.

Don't be so dismissive. Star Wars virgin jokes gave Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog, some of his best material ca. 2002.

Thanks, I didn't know what to make of it, and the currents of the project have drifted from view, as happens. I am relying on you now!

It's possible they're pulling randomly, it's not unprecedented in theme parks. Just don't have confirmation on it.

Thats how I rode the original Kongfrontation. We were in New York area and a team member came up and asked up "Do you want to ride Kong?" And we were like 'Is this a trick question?" We were backdoor in and got to ride it (with like 30 other people) three times :)

Possibly! That was when I was an undergrad and all frat and not paying attention to theme parks.

Bollocks, the King AA went berserk and destroyed some of the RV. They had to put Kong in B mode (basically switching of the AI chip), a team member almost died because of this because HAL would not open the pod bay doors. The ride now works, but they need more RVs to replace the ones Kong destroyed.

I can't tell if this is serious or not :(

I was in the "playtesting" group for the post-show at Mission:SPACE. We were brough in behind the walls - before they even went down to the little half wall - and then routed to the post show.

There we played all the Mission: SPACE Race games while WDI went around us with clipboards and video cameras. We were mixed and matched at random to make different party sizes - we'd play and then requeue and then be regroup and play again.

As far as i know, the reality of how that play area works never matched the test scenarios.

Soarin did something similar. They would come out the Imagination gate and put up a sign that Soarin was testing and then take people backstage to enter the theater directly. There was definitely enough social media at the time that people knew to start forming lines by that gate.

In 2005? All that majorly existed back then was MySpace. People could text each other if that's what you mean. The skyrocketing of social media, to me, really equals Facebook & Twitter both of which started to catch on around 2006 to 2007 within the added component of smartphones, introduced to the major market in 2007. However I could definitely see this as a turning point for Disney to start shying away from it. That is about the last time I remember this happening for a new major ride. (over a decade ago, holy cow!)

Yes, I remember this one. It was only due to the fact that the experience was extremely interactive and relied on guest input. They did play testing in Glendale for this and the canned Cinderella M&G as well.

Little Mermaid in MK as I recall didn't, but the DCA version randomly pulled CMs in to ride... that actually got some CMs in trouble due to, surprise surprise, social media. And those people had jobs on the line!

Most the major disney fan forums as we know them today were well established by 2005. I lined up and did Soarin via the Imagination gate as well.

Right. But people could not access forums from their phones back then. It was much less than it would be nowadays is my point.

The bigger factor then and now as well is that once a line forms everyone in the park wants to get in it. I remember lining up at that gate for Soarin and people getting in line behind me and then after a while asking if I knew what the line was for. Even now with so much social media there's still only a minority that really know what's going on the rest are just following.

Note: the last photos I ever took with real camera film were of M:S being constructed. I had them developed and put on a photo CD.

I have that as a keepsake because they were my last film photos. From then on I took digital pictures and posted them online.

How people used the Internet for theme park planning changed right around that time.

When Nemo previewed at Epcot the line went back to Innoventions. People got in it not having a clue what it was for. Which is odd, because people don't get in such lines on a normal day. Heck, they fight out "omg, it's 10mins and no FP?!?"

Yeah I think people can sense that it's something special. It's probably because they don't know what it is and they want to find out or feel like they're missing something.

I've always thought it would be fun to go to the parks with a small group and just spend the day forming small lines in random places to see how long they get.

I disagree. What was way, way less common then is way more common now. There is a reason they don't do these nowadays. Remember: it's 2016. 2005 was 11 years ago. The majority of tourists now have such a heavy swell of communication opportunities to make things even more widespread than before.

It's not that people couldn't back then, it's that MOST couldn't. That's the difference.
