So after a long drive in heavy rain, I arrived at DHS and ran straight to Star Tours thinking to myself "please be open"
ray:. When I saw 15 minutes on the board, I let out the rocketman scream (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IidXeuD0eSk, I know have posted this before but it is just too funny and perfect to use on occasions like this). The first thing I noticed was how sleek the queue is. It looks great. It really has the starport feel to it. You see the Starspeeder 1000 with C-3P0 and R2-D2. There is also a huge screen showing arrivals and departures and different videos. The next room is very interesting. If you look on the left hand side as soon as you enter, you will see Rex with a defective sticker on it. He does have some dialogue. The luggage scanner is really cool. I saw Madame Leota, Indy's hat and whip, Little Mikey, Fantasia broomsticks, and a lot of other cool easter eggs. There is also a screen in which you see different shadows of Star Wars characters. I saw Watto, Queen Amidala, and many more. The body scan was pretty cool. The robot called different people shapeshifters and a whole bunch of other things. Really cool stuff. Now we went to board the ride. DON'T READ ON IF YOU DO NOT WANT ANY SPOILERS!
The 3D glasses are really sleek. They were very comfortable. The safety video is just an updated version of the older one with a few more details. Once we got on, a cast member said "Enjoy your flight to Endor or where ever this thing is going! I don't know anymore!". Some (including myself) started laughing. Other guests had no idea what he was talking about . After C-3P0 is forced to pilot the Starspeeder, you get stopped by Stormtroopers. One of two things will happen. First, Darth Vader will stop you and scan the ship. Second, a droid will scan the ship. Once that happens, a guest is selected to be a rebel spy then you have to get away from the Empire. I traveled to several destinations. I went to Tatooine, Coruscant, Hoth, and the Death Star. Those destinations were simply amazing. The detail, the music, and the action was great! The 3D is absolutely perfect. It is not gimmicky at all. I didn't even see a double image with the glasses on. On some attractions, you can still see a hint of a double image with the glasses on but not on Star Tours. It really enhances your field of view and it gives great depth to the scenes. The motion of the cabins is programmed perfectly to what is happening. I didn't feel sick or dizzy after riding three times and I have a weak stomach so that wasn't an issue (at least for me).
Overall, this is an amazing attraction. It will please both fans and non-fans. I definitely will be heading back to DHS after this thing officially opens to ride it again and again, I only have 51 rides left to go!
I encourage everyone to check this thing out when it officially opens. It is simply amazing!
