I am getting in my car right now and am speeding to WDW. Hopefully it'll still be open when I get there. I live about 45 minutes away. If I can't get on, I'll just enjoy MK for a bit.

Rode it 5 times back to back, each time was something different. It's amazing... Crystal clear digital 3D. I am uploading pictures now from the Florida Mall event as well, will post links soon...

Star Tours 2 soft opening - First guest preview at Walt Disney World

At roughly 2pm on Saturday, May 14, 2011, Disney's Hollywood Studios held its first "test flights" in a soft opening to public guests for Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. No video or photos were allowed inside the attraction, but there was plenty of excitement before and after the first-ever guest ride, which you see here!

Star Tour is true to it's former counter part, but very updated with the latest digital 3D technologies and visual effects. The theme of the line cue has been for the most part revamped drastically, complete with bio luggage scanners that guests get to see the humorous contents of the luggage. I saw random items in the briefcases ranging from mickey ears, an ewok, Madame Leotta's head, Mickey's sorcerer hat, broomstick from Fantasia and even scuba gear, bowling balls. The luggage scanner also projects in 3D, much like the end of the line cue at Haunted Mansion. Pretty amazing to see it up close in the second room of the line cue. The motor conveyor belts are gone, and a new LED wall of celeb Star Wars passengers shows up, much like the one in DLC. There's also a thermal imaging camera as you make your way up the last walkway toward the loading areas. I won't spoil every little detail...

The ride itself is perfected in terms of motion, visuals and sound. C3PO whisks you away to random areas through the Star Wars universe. There is an "in-ride" camera that takes a picture of a guest, and you become part of the ride, and part of the rebel spy alliance. I saw some repeats on the ride, but for the most part, each of my 5 rides were different. I saw two different intro sequences, two different endings, three different hologram messages from 3 of Stars Wars noted rebel alliance Akbar, Yoda and Leia. The holograms are stunning 3D, and done in the style of R2's holographic message system. I visited a number of planets, each ride being unique and in different orders. My favorites are Hoth, Naboo and Tatooine. The new 3D glasses are form fitted, much like the same style of IMAX 3D glasses.

All in all, fans will not be disappointed, it's a nostalgic look back, and a giant leap forward in terms of today's neatest modern tech tricks of the trade. It would be well worth a long wait to see this, and you'll be thrilled and cheering aloud much like I was I'm sure.

May the Force be with you.

It's absolutely magical to see the ride get such great reception! I couldn't but keep a big dumb smile on my face looking at all these pictures (the queue looks so sexy now, wow! Hm, never thought I'd call a queue sexy...) and seeing the soft opening video. Seeing all those people cheering and clapping makes me extremely excited to be able to ride when I go.

WARNING! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

So after a long drive in heavy rain, I arrived at DHS and ran straight to Star Tours thinking to myself "please be open". When I saw 15 minutes on the board, I let out the rocketman scream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IidXeuD0eSk, I know have posted this before but it is just too funny and perfect to use on occasions like this). The first thing I noticed was how sleek the queue is. It looks great. It really has the starport feel to it. You see the Starspeeder 1000 with C-3P0 and R2-D2. There is also a huge screen showing arrivals and departures and different videos. The next room is very interesting. If you look on the left hand side as soon as you enter, you will see Rex with a defective sticker on it. He does have some dialogue. The luggage scanner is really cool. I saw Madame Leota, Indy's hat and whip, Little Mikey, Fantasia broomsticks, and a lot of other cool easter eggs. There is also a screen in which you see different shadows of Star Wars characters. I saw Watto, Queen Amidala, and many more. The body scan was pretty cool. The robot called different people shapeshifters and a whole bunch of other things. Really cool stuff. Now we went to board the ride. DON'T READ ON IF YOU DO NOT WANT ANY SPOILERS!

The 3D glasses are really sleek. They were very comfortable. The safety video is just an updated version of the older one with a few more details. Once we got on, a cast member said "Enjoy your flight to Endor or where ever this thing is going! I don't know anymore!". Some (including myself) started laughing. Other guests had no idea what he was talking about . After C-3P0 is forced to pilot the Starspeeder, you get stopped by Stormtroopers. One of two things will happen. First, Darth Vader will stop you and scan the ship. Second, a droid will scan the ship. Once that happens, a guest is selected to be a rebel spy then you have to get away from the Empire. I traveled to several destinations. I went to Tatooine, Coruscant, Hoth, and the Death Star. Those destinations were simply amazing. The detail, the music, and the action was great! The 3D is absolutely perfect. It is not gimmicky at all. I didn't even see a double image with the glasses on. On some attractions, you can still see a hint of a double image with the glasses on but not on Star Tours. It really enhances your field of view and it gives great depth to the scenes. The motion of the cabins is programmed perfectly to what is happening. I didn't feel sick or dizzy after riding three times and I have a weak stomach so that wasn't an issue (at least for me).

Overall, this is an amazing attraction. It will please both fans and non-fans. I definitely will be heading back to DHS after this thing officially opens to ride it again and again, I only have 51 rides left to go! I encourage everyone to check this thing out when it officially opens. It is simply amazing!

To those that have ridden: Is it smoother, at all, or is it still pretty jerky?

I have not ridden it yet, but according to several reviews, it is not as easy to suffer from motion sickness, which I would assume means it is less jerky.

Anyway, another soft opening may or may not happen today according to CMs. As of now, it is closed, however, people are still waiting in front of it in hopes of an opening.
