It is good that we are actually seeing progress, that pit is certainly shallower than the DL version though.

It was bound to be shallower as you can only dig so deep in FL. Just means that the ride building will appear to be taller in DHS than the DL counterpart.

Unless they do what they did with Magic Kingdom and just raise the walkways so the buildings extend below grade but are still above the water table. That wold also be a smart way to build a mini version of the tunnel system to get cast members and materials from place to place unseen.

It's very unlikely they will ever do something like that again.

They've made attempts since with the small tunnel system in Future World and the former tunnel system below Pleasure Island, but the Future World system was built too small if they ever wanted to make it useful and the PI system, while it was used for cast and as offices up until pretty much the end, a system that serviced PI in a place as big as Downtown Disney was fairly pointless.

And so it would be with SWL. If the whole park isn't connected through the system, it's not worth the cost. Especially because the layout of a tunnel system does have impacts on what you can do above ground when it comes to things like where you plant landscaping and such.

I'm not saying anything more than a single tunnel just to be able to move people and materials. I know they'll never build a full tunnel system again, and I'm not even saying they will build raised walkways, but it would make sense. But then again Disney seems to really have given up on keeping anything really "magic" anymore. All you have to do is see people in costume in Walmart or riding the monorail on their phone to know they just don't care anymore.

Early 2020 still seems very reasonable to me. After all, Avatar has taken 3 years to this point and it's just about done.

Originally I was an early 2020 predictor, and that was back when the optimists were saying late 2018 early 2019. And then when some changed to late 2019 early 2020 I still stayed with the early 2020. But, after the last couple of months, and how Disneyland has pushed their starting projections back, even though they seem to have decent progress, I'm starting to look at mid to late 2020 for DHS, at this point in time.

When you see the overhead shots of SWL, it shows just how big an area it is compared to other parts of the park.

Nice map. This is the attraction I'm most looking forward to at WDW and Universal. Just wish they weren't so darn slow. I'm getting up in age a bit. :)
