Then what about the replacement for Universe of Energy/Wonders of Life over at Epcot? Isn't that going to be Guardians of the Galaxy?

Actually that would make a lot of sense. Disney seems to like to split up IP's across parks.

Maybe I'm just being crazy here, but not sure it would be wise (or tactful) to put a ride based on the new-age millennial space opera film IP in the same park, (just two doors down,) from the original space opera franchise's theme park land.

What's everyone's guesses to the answer to this question:

What will happen to Star Tours when Star Wars Land opens?

Was sitting down to write a new article and was wondering what everyone else's thoughts are on the subject. I mean, it's very separate from the new land, and it's not in any of the concept art. Would they re-route the queue behind MuppetVision and remove the Endor trees and Tatooine Traders? Or just completely re-theme it to a new simulator ride based on a different IP?... Or worse, completely remove it altogether. Thoughts?

(In the case of Disneyland, it's completely on the other side of the park, so no way that's getting connected. Maybe could be rethemed to Iron Man version over there, but legally speaking, that ain't happening over here.)

My guess is that they'll move it to EPCOT and retheme it as a trip through the body. You'll then battle white blood cells and stuff.

Only if it's directed by Leonard Nimoy.

I think that it will be called Body Battle or something like that. Very strange.

In all honesty, I could see them maybe retheming Star Tours to maybe Indy in order to develop a "Lucasfilm" area (if Indiana Jones was Lucasfilm).

Indy is Lucasfilm, yes...

Maybe Star Tours will become Crystal Skull themed, ad we fly around in the inter-dimensional beings' flying saucer from the end of the film.

In my perfect world- they do a poor mans version of hog warts express. Keep the entrance as is, but reroute the exit through to Star Wars Land. As in- "you took a ship and landed in Star Wars land".

That'd be the ultimate transition into SWL- but doubtful that happens.

Howard the Duck: The Ride!

Travel through space with your favorite drunk wise-cracking humanoid duck, as he explores hitting on human chicks in bands and fighting that guy from Beetlejuice and the Alien Encounter pre-show video possessed by a giant alien monster from another dimension! It's out if this world!

Wait, I've got it. Oh, this is a good idea. Tie in Muppets with George Lucas. Wait for it.....

LABRYNTH.

Great David Bowie music (particularly Magic Dance), evade the Bog of Eternal Stench, careen through the maze, and save the Baby from the Goblin King. All in one ride. Muppets and Lucas. Can't miss.

I think it will stay as Star Tours for the time being. The park will need he capacity when SWL opens.

In the long run, I believe the above idea of a GotG ride is most likely. The inside already has that look to it, and Disney really wants to put some sort of Marvel attraction inside their WDW parks. It's the one big franchise they haven't utilized yet.

Okay, Howard the Duck: The Ride aside, here's my latest update from the Studios:
Hollywood Studios Update: Star Wars Land, Toy Story Land Construction and Starring Rolls Cafe Closed Forever – Orlando ParkStop

Video:

Photo Highlights:

New fabric covered giant work walls now covering what used to be the end of Streets of America, and what will one day be the path to the entrance to SWL, someday:

These have got to be the worst "arrows" on a directory sign ever:
P1090696.jpg

All of the trees and all of the flat New York facades that were once here, are now completely gone
P1090699.jpg

P1090700.jpg

Over towards Muppet courtyard, they're still using the original work walls:

Last structure from Streets of America, probably not going away (any time soon):

This ice cream sundae also survived the wrecking ball

Muppets balloon has been removed from top of MuppetVision tower

First the fountain is turned into a planter, and now this!

Not much change behind Muppets, still clearing land. The old Phineas and Ferb meet and greet backdrop still remains too:

Has that facade always been there and I never noticed it or is it new? Sorry for the ignorance on my part I'll chalk it up to a brain fart

Edit: As always thanks to @AliciaStella for the photo updates

It's always been there. If you ever walked down Streets of America, you saw it whether you realized it or not. It's the only part of Streets of America that will remain once SWL is open.

As NBT said, yes, but from that angle there used to be a fake wall there that's now gone.

The facade in that picture is seen directly in front of you when exiting Toy Story Mania currently. They have green army men meet and greets out there a lot lately.

Thanks @Next Big Thing @testtrack321 and @AliciaStella for the clarification and upon further review I do know that facade now, it's at the end of Pixar place and is a dead end courtyard. Seeing it from this angle was what confused me, but alas it all makes sense. The last time I was in SOA was 2015 during the last Osborne show which would make it harder to recognize facades.
