That's the exact timeline they are shooting for with these projects. SWL may spill into 2020 though. The Disneyland counterpart is expected to open a full year earlier.

Well if they do that, that would be a plus. But again, I don't want December openings, I think May/June opens are much better.

I had heard rumors where everything was pushed back. So I was not expecting this timeline.

We've all heard the reports that this is the case, but are there any reasonable, logistical justifications for such a delay (we all know the parking situation has to be sorted out, but it's not like Disneyland doesn't have infrastructure issues to tackle for its land, too)? Or is it just another case of Disney deciding to shaft Orlando in order to give Disneyland more time in the spotlight?

Per that schedule, DHS' Star Wars expansion runs the risk of being an also-ran - an afterthought - in the grand scheme of things because all the hype and excitement will climax a year earlier when Disneyland's version is revealed. We're already going to know what everything looks like, we're going to know how great the rides are, etc. Florida residents and tourists will get to stew for a year (or perhaps more, who knows?) while listening to people lavish praise (I assume) on the version of the land in California. Yes, we'll be thrilled when it finally opens, but all the mystery will be gone, and its opening might take on the atmosphere of a perfunctory, pro forma thing. I can all but guarantee the Disneyland SW land's grand opening will have almost all of the key actors/filmmakers of the new trilogy in attendance (in addition to some from the OT, I'm sure), whereas I'd be surprised if DHS' version is attended by anybody more well-known than Warwick Davis and Billy Dee Williams (and that's not a slight against those two guys in any way). But who knows, maybe I'm just feeling pessimistic tonight!

Not that it's an excuse, but DHS also has to get their new parking garages built and new entrance done before that parking lot can handle the extra crowds that will come with SWL.

It's actually probably better it opens at DL first as it'll give a whole year for people to experience it and then Orlando's opening won't be a complete cluster.

Sure, but Disneyland has to re-route the train and re-route/fill-in portions of the river, and they're also constructing a rather impressive looking berm/facade to hide the land from the river. Both coasts have certain pieces they need to move into place before their respective lands can be ready to go.

I mean, I guess? I just think Orlando's is already going to have a "been there, done that" feel to it - even if most people haven't technically "been there" yet, they'll have seen all about Disneyland's version. Orlando's isn't likely to feel very special... if that's even a thing that matters to people anymore.

This will NEVER (EVER) happen, but imagine... just for a moment... a simultaneous opening on both coasts. Like, literally simultaneous. Synchronized grand opening ceremonies, interacting via satellite (or however) in real time. JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, and Mark Hamill in Disneyland, with Kathleen Kennedy, John Boyega, and Harrison Ford in Orlando; George Lucas could even pop up somewhere as a surprise guest star. It could be a spectacle on a grand scale. Heck, ABC could do a live broadcast special from both coasts. It would be an incredible bit of promotion that would grab headlines everywhere.

True.

A majority of construction at DHS is going to be focused on TSL though. That's mostly why I expect the year difference. I think they want to avoid doing too much at once and keep costs down. Would I like it to be the magical grand opening you describe? absolutely. It's just not the way it's looking to happen right now.

It's strange to me that they're prioritizing Toy Story Land over Star Wars.

It should be a rather quick build. Although something that should be quick by normal standards is never the equal case with Disney.

i agree to an extent, but i also think WWOHP Hollywood will still be a big deal so there is no reason to think the same about star wars land at DHS especially since stats show most people go to Disneyland or WDW not both

Is it possible that after the success of Force awakens and a new movie being released yearly, that their has been a shift priorities and perhaps star wars construction has now been made the main focus

You could do all that but why only do it once? Why not do it twice and open them at separate times?

^^^ This. I think they want to open TSL first and since they have larger infrastructure to do before SWL they will have a longer time line. I honestly don't mind this. Very few people go to both parks. And most people on the East Coast will not travel to Disneyland to see this. They will wait until it comes to WDW a year later. In the mean time they will have TSL to keep them happy when they visit. I really see it as a non-issue.

And I agree with Scott. You get more hype if you do a grand opening twice and make the news twice about Star Wars. All at once wouldn't be a good business decision in my mind.

I guess I just don't trust Disney to give DHS' version of the land the same kind of over-the-top, no-expense-spared grand opening that Disneyland will surely be getting.

And I get the supposed "business" reasons for opening the lands years apart. That doesn't mean I have to like it, though.

Will it get your money twice? All that matters when they do this....(im sure other logistics are in play.)

I was just looking at recent photos of Disneyland's future Star Wars Land. They are so far ahead of DHS. Almost all of the 14 acres has been cleared of foliage, most buildings flattened, and the dirt moved around. DHS, almost nothing touched. So easy to see how WDW is treated as the wicked stepsister of the Disney company.

For what its worth, DLR is also reportedly getting a new preview center, replacing the SHHQ floor of Innovations in Tomorrowland (SHHQ is also closed BTW at DLR now..), and that they'd be getting confirmation on the layout; and the rides for SWL on their coast. If theres any consolation, i'd expect a similar exhibit to occur within HWS; but we'll see.

It's not as far as it seems. DL has had to move backstage buildings (they still have more to get rid of), etc which has taken a long while. Cat Canyon and Premiere theatre are already gone and they've started on LMA over at DHS.

It won't take to long to rip down the Streets of America either. Yes, DHS is behind, but I don't think it's as far behind as it may seem by looking at a simple picture.

They're six months behind at least.
