I feel that, right now, we're seeing a bit of an over-correction on the front end. So that, we don't have to deal with those sort of corrections on the back end.

HHN is still 6 months out. Many companies are currently running as close to "business as usual" as possible. Just because the parks are closed to the public, doesn't mean that no one is doing anything at the parks.

This situation is currently believed to spike around late April/early May. We would probably barely even have two announcements by that time.

Will there possibly be some changes/adjustments? Sure. I don't foresee an all-out cancellation though.

Of course, I'm speaking from a state that just had every restaurant and bar closed indefinitely four hours after they announced it. So, things can change very quickly.

I definitely don't expect the event to be canceled. Like you said, maybe some changes, sure. But 6 months is a long time.

My state just had all restaurants/bars close in the 5 most affected counties.

Mods please let me know if this is too far off topic, but in regards to HHN in the fall: looking at the Spanish Flu as the most relevant example there was a resurgence of cases in the fall/winter of that year, and it was when most of the fatalities happened.

That was also during WW1 and they didn't have the medical technology or knowledge that we have today.

The absolute best case scenario at this point is that we have 8 weeks of what is happening in Italy right now happen all over the US. Maybe the warm/humid weather will help limit spread, maybe it won't. By the time the potential 2nd wave comes through we'd be at a point where we have actual tests, treatment protocols, and maybe some verified antivirals that would dramatically limit spread until things are back under control.

In some mild good news, I was privy to some info on the Goldman Sachs' high level investor call yesterday. They are currently expecting this to behave more similarly to 9/11's effects on the stock market rather than 2008. They're predicting that Q3 and on will pick back up and start recovery due to the aforementioned reasons. Hopefully that will pan out.

If that is the case, I think HHN will be only mildly impacted, but we will see. The next 5-10 weeks will be really trying and will inform a lot of what happens. If you can, stay inside and limit contact with people. Any limiting spread will help.

I went on Halloween/Nov 1 last year, and there were already some Christmas decorations starting to be hung in IoA on the 1st.

Exactly. Unfortunately it seems to be a case of either it happens or it doesn't.

And I'm still leaning toward "it happens."

Similar to EU at this point we just don't know what the future entails. While I know this is scary and worrisome the last thing we should do is panic or fearmonger. At this point, HHN is happening and us worrying in March won't affect what happens in September. This isn't to say we need to stop discussing this, this is IMHO not a mod statement, but it's a bridge we'll cross if we get to it.

What WILL affect what happens in September is us practicing social distancing, proper hygiene, and pressuring US officials to pass bills that will help the Orlando economy during this hard time.

The show must go on as they say, and I’m sure both Orlando and Hollywood have their respective plans, we just gotta sit tight and wait it out, we’ll get something soon.

This...also, not trying to get on a soap box but... please keep things in perspective. Remember that as much as this seems like a "distant illness" to some right now...there may be others on this board who have the virus or have loved ones or people close to them affected by it. Things like HHN are events we all look forward to, and removing some of our biggest hobbies and interests in a time of quarantine and panic might seem like a tragedy, but the real tragedy will be the job loss, illness and deaths that are going to continue coming.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst...but most of all, accept the future, whatever that may be.

And do what you can to prevent the worst. Do anything you can to limit travel or exposure. One person in Korea was ultimately responsible for around 1k infections by being irresponsible!

If we get to June and it's either the same or worse, then I'll start to panic. But, like Joe and Legacy said, it's just way way too early to freak out.

And if we get to June and we’re not on a downward trajectory, there are going to be much bigger concerns than HHN.

Indeed. Of course, I can't see these parks remaining closed for more than a month or so.

I mean...even Universal left the door open in their press release to open earlier than the end of the month. It said, they anticipate staying closed the rest of the month, but are monitoring the situation closely.

Not trying to get into the mass hysteria of this, but many places are installing bans on public gatherings of more than 50 people for the next 8 weeks (goes into affect here at 9am tomorrow). This is going to last longer than people think.

HHN bounced back quickly after 9/11 and Pulse, but those were different kids of emergencies. In this day and age with the internet and lawsuits, a business would be committing financial suicide to put it's clientele at risk for their bottom line. If the park opens when other bans are in place and one attendee later tests positive and other attendees are put at risk, that won't be pretty.

Closing a 2 month long event and sacrificing that profit is better than a PR disaster and crippling lawsuits.

(edited to be more better englishly)

If for some reason it does get cancelled - I can see a silver lining in Universal having an extra year to prepare for the event and going all out with one of the best events ever.

With a Sept 10 start date, it's likely they would start later but we're way ahead of ourselves right now to even start speculation on that.
