Morning everyone, and have fun to those who have gotten in.

Now as far as yesterday is concerned, what exactly happenned? Did UO see the line that was formed and basically said that we can't let that many people in? Were the hotels packed?

They said there were not too many hotel guests but FJ was having issues all morning, which hotel guests confirmed was true.

Ah gotcha, that would explain wanting to limit how many people are in line.

Well I'm glad they got the bugs out of it and its running normal this morning.

Has the POE officially starting selling merch? I know they were stocking it the other day.

You know how you can just go to Epcot's World Showcase and do nothing? You could just browse and sit all day and have a great time? That is how well I feel they have done this island. I would (and will) go there just to get a butterbeer and sit in Hogsmeade. I am not a big HP fan, but the area is just amazing and immersive. It is small, both in overall footprint and the shops... but it makes it feel that much more like exactly what they tried to create. You are visiting a town you have never been to before, not a recreation of a small town in a theme park. Is that really smart for business? I don't know, but it is exactly what they were going for and they did it perfectly.

Well said - That was EXACTLY my experience and impression after 3 mornings out there last week. By the 3rd morning, I rode FJ, wandered for a while, decided to try the breakfast, and then wandered with drinks until they kicked us out and just enjoyed the atmosphere.
I went into work Sunday (my PT job at the competition mentioned here - lol) and your description is exactly the same I told everyone at work - that it was just like wandering World Showcase, and even not being a Potterhead, I was facinated by the level of detail, every corner I turned I found something new that I hadnt seen before to marvel at. Just like wandering the pavillions at WS. And, I told them that I could only imagine if you were a Potterhead - theres no way you could get bored just hanging out and relaxing, and you would certainly have an even deeper appreciation for all of the immersion.

One of my favorite pasttimes wandering the parks, (especially Epcot), spending a day with family or friends and maybe never even getting on a ride, and taking friends around and showing them the "little hidden detais"... so I am just floored by the level that Universal stepped it up for this area.

On another note, just following up with comments a few pages back, lol, yes, I love the heaver Conducter, the thinner guy is ok, but I have to agree he does remind me also a bit of PeeWee Herman now that you all have put that image in my head! LMAO!!!

Exactly the word Im waiting to hear....Im trying to save my next trip down to try lunch or dinner and see things lit up in the evening. (with the 7-8PM closings I dont think we will get a real nighttime view of the area until summer hours kick in - too much twilight left that early).

I also hope to hear something soon. I wanted to head out there sometime this week in the evening. I really can't go in the morning during the week and this past weekend I had family in and couldn't go. I fear next weekend will be way too crowded for GP to get let in if it is still in the morning. First day I hear it is open all day I will be going out just to catch it for an hour or so after work.

I had e-mailed Uni over a week ago about an AP preview and finally got an answer today that sounds like they still have no idea what is going on:

With regards to your questions, unfortunately we have not received any updates regarding our Annual Pass Holders and the dates of the special previews. We apologize for any inconvenience; please continue to check our websites for the latest information and updates.

More than likely we won't have a nighttime opening of the area until the 18th.

They are 11 days away, so might as well and make sure all the kinks are worked out in the morning before opening full bore.

If they were to do a full GP soft, do you know how long the line for FJ will be? It will be insane!

Anyone hear anything about annual passholder previews yet? The closer it gets to the opening date, the more and more I think that it really isn't going to happen.

I dont know...as a ride operator and someone who has either worked hourly or managed attraction openings in the past, I would rather work with an unannounced full day opening which would have less guests than a "grand" or "official" operation date to test lines, wait times, dumping full queues with guests in line, etc, than wait until "go-live" to have to test these when expectations are up and people are paying because your officially open: its a lot easier to explain problems away during "testing" than when guest expectations set.
Its also better for your team, they get less guest grief to deal with (since guests somewhat expect and are more forgiving during "pre-opening", and gives you a chance to fine tune some of your operations, shift changovers, etc.
I would think IOA managment has to be considering this.

If they have considered this, then it should have been done already.

They shouldnt have to work these bugs out the day of, or a few days before hand. They should have been working them out for a time now.

It's entirely possible that they've been working on it this entire time, but circumstances have changed things so they needed to change things up. I wouldn't worry much about it. I'm sure the people-related stuff will be set for a full day opening when the 18th rolls around. I'm more worried about FJ.

Actually Bryan they still may go after him Uni is so protective & after all it is a shot nobody was spouse to get lol yeah even I can't stay serious anymore about it all things considered. For how secretive they have been it really was all for nothing because we always found a loop hole or a way to get the pics we wanted lol.

Also have to remember, they originally wanted to open this land in 09, and the project got away from them. I believe I heard somewhere they were under contract with JKR and WB to have it open NLT June 21st, hence the final announcement for the 18th set in stone. Im sure if they could get another month or so before grand opening, they would love to as this whole project seems to have overwhelmed them. Now they are pushing a deadline...Im sure they are doing all they can to get it perfect, and at the same time flying by the seat of their pants.
Remember all the problems when Test Track opened originally, then had to close to be re-engineered? GM almsot pulled sponsorship and then they (Disney) had an ultimatum deadline to get it open again - and in reality it still wasnt up to full capacity for a while after that.
Its a new ride system, new technology (used in this manner), a new land, a whole new set of issues they havent fully conceived of yet. Plus the added pressure of all the anticipation surrounding it: like it or not, this is the biggest thing to hit UO or anywhere around here in quite some time.

As far as I remember the area was always earmarked for 2010, originally it was Spring of 2010, but I don't believe it was ever announced as a 2009 opening.

Bingo. This is the thing people have to realize. This has NEVER been done before. They didn't know what they were going to run into. I'm sure they want to have full day softs, and I think they will sometime later this week. But this is a whole new world of attraction, and people have to realize that.
