hi all (1st post here!)

I would be relatively happy to see transformers at Uni but if it does arrive then I really would be worried about spidy and the rest of marvel island in IOA, to the extend that I could see it getting closed and re-themed within a couple of years. i'd imagine the hulk and dr doom would be fine (but re-themed) however SF accelertron and spidy I believe would then make way for new attractions to tie in with the new land. I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing...

^ The vast majority of us are not worried about that happening at all.

I dont think you have to worry about Marvel going anywhere anytime soon thats especially after they done a major refurb for Spidey.

Uni has no logical reason nor binding obligation that would make them remove Spider-Man, let alone the rest of Marvel Super Hero Island. All Transformers is doing is being another ride in USF.

Why are people so hellbent on continually bringing this paranoid argument up?

First of all, welcome!

I don't think that will happen. All the power in the Marvel/Universal deal really lies with Uni. So they will keep the characters as long as they want to. I don't see them changing it unless Disney makes them an offer they can't refuse.

Thanks, nice to be here!

Does anyone know what sort of lease duration uni has with marvel? could it be 15 years? if so, that would mean it could expire in 2014 hence the rush to get this new ride open and HP 2.0 up too which would divert a lot of people traffic away from marvel island. just a thought as I believe the current work is all part of a bigger plan but I don't have any sources to back that up lol

What Skip said. Uni has all rights to the Marvel characters for as long as they want, as long as it is on the East Coast. Meaning, WDW may never have the characters in their parks, but Disneyland Resort on the other hand, could.

Foresight is 20/20, but they could have had a chance to lock down the Marvel rights in the two largest US tourist markets, but they had to abandon Marvel on the west coast.

What about Japan? Even though DLT isn't owned/operated by TDO, Universal Japan still has Marvel characters in those parks.

I wouldn't be too sure. I believe because it is pre-existing, it isn't affected. I really don't know. I am only familiar with the terms of the contract that affect the American parks.

ah ok, so unless Disney stumps up some serious £$€ then Uni won't need to retheme until they want to?

Nope. And believe me, they definitely don't want to. It's a very popular area, with very hot properties. It's not going anywhere just yet.

every land/theme will have it's shelf-life but I do agree that marvel has some way to go yet, plus it's location is ideal as a 'people magnet' to disperse some of the HP crowds.

back to SS44, has anyone managed to get a birds eye view of the re-bar grid from HRRR etc? from the pics i'm guessing that the current excavated area is approx 50% of the total area.

Don't think so. I've seen quite a few choppers over the park in the years I've been visiting. Hell, why do you think everybody's been saying "Get to da choppa'!"
