i know SNL is going to be used in a regional museum (ripleys, madame taussaunds, hollywood wax museum) i believe the Goddard group is working on the concept.

I'll play devil's advocate here and pitch that Universal needs to get away from the studios theme. What's left that actually shows behind the scene stuff? Twister, Disaster, and horror make up? I guess you can argue mummy to a point due to the "preshow", but i digress. Most things in the park now are THEMED to the movies, not how they make them etc. To make it a coherent theme throughout, I think it is finally time to kill off the working studio, "hey check this stuff out behind the curtains" vibe and bring on an immersive themed environment like IoA next door.

Since day one Universal has featured both movie magic and Ride the movie style of attractions. There is really no point in going in one direction or the other. It is more about if it is well executed it is well executed. If it is fun it is fun. If it is a good attraction it is a good attraction.

wrong side to take. its called Universal STUDIOS. Created after Universal Hollywood. luckily we got the better end of the stick and have the better park. we should have a similar or better experience than the park way out west. but lets not forget, the first park was/is a studio and they brought that here for us. that's what's unique about this park. and specifically why i like it and now work in film.

The concept of the park was nice...in 1990. In 2011...does it still work? With all the behind the scene features and access to how movies are made in the real world(imdb, dvd extras etc) is a studio park really all that relevant today? You can keep a backlot area if you must, like DCA has theirs...but revamp the rest to bring in a coherent theme.

Says it all right there.

It's an ever evolving thing, and hopefully they will do what they have to to keep it fresh and interesting.
Like using the space they have.... just sitting there.... in disrepair.

They can focus on movies more, but that cant ignore their name and purpose. It's park of what makes the park unique.

If both parks were "immersive experiences", where would the distinction between the two be?

There are still many things a production show can show off that a DVD can't. Like having guest participants. To compare, nowadays, it only takes a mere Google search to learn about something. But that doesn't render the educational aspects of EPCOT Center and Animal Kingdom irrelevant.

And again, the fact that Universal has built production attractions over at USS and a new production show at USH shows that they're still relevant.

Giving the production soundstages a better connection to the park again, to me, is a much better idea to make the park more coherent, rather than copying IoA.

why would they remove the old one and not reuse it for a new attraction? (if such a thing was to happen)

they were cramped and I don't know how ADA they actually are with today's standards... I've only seen them used once for the Ghost Hunter's queue last HHN and they were not really up to par with today's queues... that and they probably were rusting an such since they weren't maintained much. Though removing them would allow stuff to happen on that patio now as well.

Idk if this means anything, but today i saw people outside the building with clip boards talking, and pointing at different parts of the building. It was also Extremely active, lots of people walking in and out. I caught a look of the inside too, didn't see much though.

Christmas decor and preparations are the reason for the increased traffic I believe. The SS was loaded with Christmas decor the other day.....

bad photos cause I was far away but a ton of characters were coming from in the building.. so I'm guessing they must have cleaned it out and it must be safe for use

I saw the inside briefly yesterday. The east side of the building which is the Mels and Shrek side is open to characters at the moment because of construction going on. They have some black curtains blocking the doors for privacy of the characters and there is a bunch of exercise equipment and rest area in there. One of the leads who stands guard of the doorways from guests had said that that area is the only accessible area of the entire building. He told me all the doors inside leading to what used to be the main areas are bolted shut and is condemned. My guess is they dont even allow for storage there because they dont want personnel in the asbestos filled areas for health concerns. There are rumors it is going to be demolished but when is uncertain. I had heard this from many different sources of different departments. I would have tried to get pictures butits a dressing room so I'm trying to be descriptive as possible. Ill keep all u curious minds updated as I find out more.
