This is very very fun though and something similar but done up a bit in EU would be great

Hoping they're able to keep the meet and greet courtyard under the new coaster.

They originally had a large covered outdoor seating area surrounded by fake village facades in the plans, but that served no purpose. So, newer plans in late 2019/early 2020, (which is what we saw in permits,) kept only the REAL buildings, dropped the covered seating and facades, and replaced it with a central park area surrounded by benches instead. This would be used for meet and greets supposedly. Facades for fake village stuff was replaced with what could be traveling vardos caravan cars, like the one seen in the temporary Monsters store while Mummy was closed.

Anyway, now that there's a coaster passing over this area, I am not sure if we will still have a small central park for meet and greets or not. But some minor changes to the plans around the Windmill restaurant are happening now, so maybe they've opened up some space down in that area instead?

I think I would prefer roaming characters over designated meet and great spaces, at least for this land. Wouldn’t make much sense in-universe to have a line forming to take a selfie with Dracula or a werewolf. I enjoy how USF uses roaming characters, hoping it’s similar in EU.

Essentially it would be the same way the Hollywood street is used for random character greetings at Universal Studios Florida

I'm kidding! Somewhat.

It really does sound like, though, given the proposed additional facades, that the intention originally was for the town to be (or to appear) more sprawling and immersive than the couple of buildings we're ending up with, along with an obvious coaster occupying a healthy chunk of the area that was once going to be (I assume) more atmospheric.

Coaster fans can rejoice that they're getting another one in the park lineup, but those of us who were intrigued by the prospect of getting to roam around spooky streets and soak up the mood will always wonder how much more of that vibe we might have gotten had the plans not been altered.

I absolutely agree. Uni hasn't made many missteps lately, but I think the changes to Monster Land smell like a big one. A cool show and meet n' greet trumps a small outdoor coaster any day of the week, in my estimation. Honestly, I think Uni needs to move away from their obsession with bare steel coasters. I don't think they're some desecration of the immersiveness of a park like some Disney fans - I think the big two in IOA work great (there's got to be a better replacement for Hippograf) - but I also think the focus on them feels like something from an earlier era, when Universal was counter-programing to the mouse, trying to pick up stragglers. They're now at a point where they should be meeting Disney head on and eating their lunch, and that means more all-ages dark rides and fewer bare coasters. If they had to replace the show, a goofy Beetlejuice dark ride might have been just the thing.

Universal Classic Monsters is probably one of the hardest IPs to adapt to a theme park. It's old, it's classic and the films and designs are so iconic they have inspired generations of multi media content still consumed today such as Monster High, Hotel Translyvania, League of extraordinary Gentlemen, Hammer films and Marvel (per Werewolf by night creator Roy Thomas and Mike Ploog, Universal's wolfman was the inspiration) and DC (Creature Commandos).

I know this land went to a lot of different iterations. I don't think the current design iteration actually is the best choice overall. It was argued back in August that the land will attract the GP because of a,b,c...I think the land won't because it's missing key things which is timelessness, scale, and nostalgia. Look at the front two lands, Universal is building. You walk into Super Nintendo World, you are actually seeing things you fully recognize from your childhood, you look at Berk and the sheer scale of it is massive, there are some many things to do and see its sensory overload. For those two lands, it appears there was way more care put into it compared to Potter and Monsters.

Monsters we are getting the kuka, the coaster, and maybe in the future creature of the black lagoon boat ride (unless its built now, its not guaranteed). Additionally, two eateries. For me, it is just lacking a lot of QoL and small things that we have come to appreciate in lands.

My hope though is the lack of reverence is displayed within the kuka ride even if its not shown in the land itself. While coasters are really fun, it's really a low bar threshold to please people which is why I really want better.

Since the Monsters (wolfman?) coaster is all but confirmed to be outdoors, I hope the sections that go through the courtyard area are well integrated into the land similar to this coaster in Germany's Phantasialand.

If Universal is really passionate about this park then I hope they didn’t cut any corners for the sake of getting it open. Unfortunately it seems like the UCM land was a lot more ambitious when first announced.

Now for reasons unknown they decided to make some cuts which we were afraid from the start of this discussion. I just hoping It turns out better than what we seem to be getting.

Don’t get me wrong I think the Monsters E ticket is going to be amazing however they need to quickly add the third potential ride in Creatures from the Black Lagoon to fully flesh out this area.

When we talk about cut it's always "removed or swapped with something downsized". The new coaster will likely cost more and handle more people in a day than the theater show and play area. Is that a cut? And remember, we're talking about the imagined (literally, it's all in your heads) version of this land vs unspecified and unannounced rumors for this land. I might as well be comparing 2025 Thanksgiving and 2025 Christmas at this point. I thought I knew a lot about this land and park, then I keep finding out newer and cooler things. We just gotta cool the jets with the defeatism.

Don't think you guys have much to worry about.

Again, in regards to the plot of the land, they needed a way to get all of them together. Give me that any day over the Forbidden Journey's "look here's this monster for no reason!" method.

Yeah "cut" isn't the word for it. It's a change of plans, and one that seems to have been made a while ago too.

I have to preface what I'm about to say by pointing out that the land is years away from opening, we don't know everything yet, and things can change.

That said, what kind of disappoints me about what we appear to be getting from the Monsters land is that I was hoping Universal would be taking the Potter approach: literally recreate environments from the movies. That's what they're doing with Nintendo (games instead of movies, in that case) and Berk. They want to put you in places you recognize, with characters that are immediately identifiable.

With Monsters, though, it seems like they're reconceptualizing the IP. So instead of actually walking directly into places from DRACULA or FRANKENSTEIN or THE WOLF MAN, we're going to be getting a land and attractions that are suggested by the characters, but are not directly recreating anything from the movies. Some amount of creative license was always going to be necessary to get a bunch of the Monsters together in the same story, but the modern setting, the newly-invented main character for the E-ticket, the idea of the town embracing being a tourist trap, the outdoor coaster (which will obviously run during the daytime, making its proposed Wolf Man theme kind of nonsensical)... none of that screams to me "You're finally getting the Monsters land you always dreamed of!"

Did I have unfair expectations for the land, given that I've been a fan of the Monsters since I was a kid in the early 1990s and collected all the VHS tapes? Probably! But my feelings are what they are. I hope the area turns out well.

If the coaster were going to be, essentially, "contained" by facades (even while still technically being "outdoor"), I think that would be much better. Both for the coaster itself and for the surrounding area.

It certainly seems that any changes that may have been to “save money” at this park was to offset a ton of money being spent to improve something else. These aren’t budget cuts so much as reallocations to make the park or rides better in some way.

And there’s still a lot we don’t know about this current iteration of the Monsters land. The further you go back the more art and explorations we’ve seen. But we have nothing for this new version with a coaster. So I’ll reserve my judgement.
