As long as they keep the two theaters open, which is always an iffy issue with Universal, it should be OK for a full day experience. Shows take up a lot more time than 4 minute rides and 2 minute coasters. The other issue is that a couple of attractions might have really long lines that will, by that nature, extend the time spent in the park. Looking at most new theme parks, they are generally conservative in the number of opening day attractions. Epic is basically similar to most new parks on their opening dates.

I think, on balance, the park will have enough to be considered a full day experience for most guests.

Will it be a full day experience for me? Depends!

Epic will open with 11 rides just like IOA. Universal Beijing and Shanghai Disneyland opened with 13 with Animal Kingdom opening with like 2.

Arguably 13 rides since the hub racing coaster has each track have a unique layout/design.

and Animal Kingdom still only has 7 rides. In fact Epic will have more rides than any of the secondary Disney parks (Epcot has 11 and Hollywood Studios has 9)

Based on some permitting documentation in @Alicia's latest podcast/video, it would appear that the town in the Monsters land has, indeed, been named Darkmoor.

I really wish they were going with something that appeared in the actual movies. Is it a huge deal? No. But it does support the idea that the land is going to be "inspired by" the movies, rather than a direct recreation of the IPs. I just hope they don't go too far afield.

That's... odd because that sounds English and you'd think they'd go with something vaguely German or Romanian.

I'll admit I can't recall where the Universal films are primarily set, but isn't much of Dracula and The Invisible Man (the novels) set in the U.K.? I don't think this is terribly odd given that.

Much of Dracula is, but the entire point is that the Vampire is a “foreign” threat (in a somewhat problematic way) - after all, Uni is about to release a whole film about his boat ride to England. Wolf man is also set in England. But the village motif is associated with Frank and the first, Transylvanian part of Drac, the two biggest monsters. The facade for the E-ticket is (as I believe Alicia has pointed out) based closely on a Belgian castle… which is still a bit odd, but is at least continental.

All of the films in which the Frankenstein Monster appears (except ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN... which takes place in Florida!) take place in sort of an all-purpose Swiss/Bavarian set of villages that are close to each other.

OK, let's break this down.

Everyone knows that Dracula is from Transylvania, which is part of present day Romania.

Frankenstein literally means German Castle. The Franks were a Germanic tribe, Stein is Germanic for stone, but common in names of landscapes, places, and CASTLES.

Wolfman is from Wales, which is in central Great Britain.
Moor is a distinctly British word for "uncultivated land including hunting areas and low-lying wetlands", but the word is not used in Wales. The Welsh word for a moor is "Gweiadur". So I guess Darkmoor is better than "Darkgweiadur" (you know UC probably actually had this discussion, no proof, but logic says...).

So Darkmoor must be a generic "European" village on the edge of a moor where you could possibly encounter an angry dogman, a random German Castle/Manor, and a blood thirsty international Casanova. Oh, and a Windmill with a Tavern.

Sounds good to me.

My question is the name "Stakehouse". Your average tourist is going to expect an actual steakhouse. And that doesn't appear to be what that restaurant will be. Not to mention not what I would want in a pseudo-European Monster's Land. Pork Schnitzel? Yes. Cowboy Ribeye? Not so much.

I still say they should have basically just ripped off Biergarten at Epcot: an indoor-for-outdoor courtyard at perpetual nighttime (with a periodic rising full moon effect?) and a buffet featuring German/Bavarian dishes (and stuff for pickier eaters, too).
