Usually called a stemwall slab, with the concrete foundation wall being the "stemwall", which rests on a footer. I assume this is what youre talking about when you say "concrete surround". There are many different means and methods to do it.

Yes, that is it, thanks! My house in Florida was built two feet above grade using a stemwall. So, does that look like a stemwall in that picture to you?

That's where the big tent that was supposed to be used at HHN comes into play. BAM! Right over Phase 2. No one will ever know.

It looks like it yes...it provides a support for steel, cmu, or whatever as well as a form for the slab, which can be poured at a later date. This can give other trades more time to get their underground rough-ins done.

I felt the same way. I was in my dorm room with a bunch of friends and I practically started squealing when I saw the pictures. Embarassing? Yes. Necessary? Yes.

I don't think it'll be obvious for a while.

^ I was really hoping that they build the London facades before theming Diagon, Gringotts etc... if not, there are going to be quite a few very unhappy potter families that will see from a distance what they are going to miss.

Indeed it will many months before anything is even remotely recognizable.

I think everything might start to go vertical now, not just DA. Also, I don't think things will be instantly recognizable for a while. Everything will probably just look boxy and grey for several months.

BTW, does everybody think those tall metal things that just went up are for the front of Gringotts? Upon first sight, I thought they were more up front in the land. Sometimes it's hard to get good perspective from pics. Everything is so massive, and things look closer or further away than they really are, when looking at them from a ground view. Really looking forward to the choppa pics!

It is Gringotts... The vertical steel in the front is very close together, and as the verts go back they widen out and begin to tilt outwards. I will admit that I am surprised that they are tilting the steel like that, as they sometimes fake the tilt with facades and not the internal structures.

The last time I saw concrete like this, it was the greenhouse section of the Forbidden Journey queue. So this just SCREAMS Gringotts queue to me.

It seems like the construction in each area that's being worked on keeps getting faster and faster!!! It's like you blink and the thing is a great way along. Thank you guys for all of the time you take to give updates on here!

^ It is in fact the facade of Gringotts. Note how some of the steel-work leans outward. Those are the tilting side angles of the bank.

Thanks Teebin, spent ages trying to figure out what I was looking at, I get it now you explained that steel work:thumbs:

Im not totally convinced that the steel columns have been leveled yet on their anchor bolts. Sometimes columns may be set loose until they get the beams installed that will tie them together. I believe they will have secondary steel to create the leaning walls. Now certainly on the very front of the bank facade they may set the columns out of plumb before they wrap them because theres just no other way around it.

The more steel goes up in front of the camera, the harder I find it to see what is actually going on as all the different layers blend into each other. The sky is the only way!

Here is a diagram of what is currently going on. At the top, just off page, is the large show building (north).

Green = current steelwork
Fuschia = cinderblock and concrete work
Orange = the presumed location of the four rectangular forms we have seen in a row.

^Glad someone else caught that... They really could just say "future expansion"... Or you know, just finally announce it.
