It ate more people than most attractions at the parks and was a must ride because of its status of pop culture in both cinema and theme parks. The real estate and cost was what killed it with the possiblity of what an investment potter was. It was still eating more people than The Simpsons for example. Using that logic The Simpsons should be out very soon as I think it is rare for them to run at full capacity capabilities and get long waits. Even the old Amity carnival games are going into the queue areas that it never needs.

The fact is with the investment and what to look for Jaws was one attraction that took up the most land and cost the most to keep running when it was an easy place to expand on an investment. Nails in the coffin with that.

If I am not mistaken the Simpsons got higher satisfaction scores than Jaws did. Obviously I don't agree with that but just wanted to add fuel to this 7 month old fire.

ermm..a bit larger than that. I would say more Toadlike as far as the love. Horizons was so unpopular because it was bold but not updated bold. Most of the stuff predicted we had pretty smilarly. I loved Horizons but for it to work it would of had to of constantly be updated. Jaws's effects may of been lackluster to some but they were still on a large scale and it was still about a fictional shark attracking you as it was since day one.

I would also put a lot of money on the fact that what Universal does will be more successful as a theme park installment than what Horizons was replaced with.

It's got to be due to this surge in attendance. To the first-timers who came for WWOHP, Jaws wasn't a classic. It was just another ride, unfortunately. I have a feeling that from now on, they're not going to replace quite as many modern classics as they had (they still will for space reasons, but they'll likely be more hesitant) because as new attendees come for WWOHP and these new additions, they will return because they fall in love with UOR as a whole.

There are rumors circling, such as the Jurassic Park and Seuss Landing additions, that seem to suggest that Universal will spruce up what they already have. This is absolutely essential, because there will be a point where they can't add to WWOHP. Guests need to adore the resort as a whole.

Yes, I love flying my hovercar to work everyday. I made le'rangeade this afternoon, and just booked a reservation for my 10th Anniversary dinner at the floating, underwater city. As soon as the housing market recovers, I hope to sell my flat on the orbiting space station.

Not to get too off topic, but Horizons suffered declining popularity because theme park patrons expect more thrills than they once did. actor in the loss of sponsorship and the growing sinkhole under the foundation, and its days were numbered.

Well, I agree with all of this, except for the sinkhole myth. The sponsorship issue with the biggest problem. They had plans to upgrade it before Compaq decided they wanted a new pavilion

Will be interesting to see what happens when the HP sponsorship of Mission: Space ends next year.

Epcot, from day one, was criticized for not having enough thrills. But Horizons initial popularity was the futuristic scope of the ride. Not nesessarily it's content, but the overall cool futuristic feel. But what was "futuristic" in '82 felt considerably less cool at the Millenium. It's just that it's replacement was far less ambitious than Horizons. 25 years of progress and the future seems kind of a let down.

That is interesting. If accurate, then what is that over the Fear Factor building? Just the walkway into the theater and stage?

It's close enough to get the general idea, but it is slightly off.

That overlay is quite over reaching. It attempts to build something on both the service road and on fear factor. That just isn't in the cards or plans. It also contains waterfront junk that just isn't what they are currently building. So... there.

It was just last week they were starting to frame what has now become another wall foundation. I'm really curious to find out what the waterfront plans are.

Oh, and the Lombard's pier is your friend for the waterfront pics.

EDIT: The pictures linked in the post above mine have to be from yesterday or Thursday, because they just couldn't have poured that entire line and had it set by about 6 when I took that.

Thanks Mike, I knew they were close with the second wall because an inspection was scheduled.

And Teebin, it looks like it's curving to me.

I don't understand why they haven't completely removed the old wall yet. They only removed parts of them that were in the way of the new wall.
