Its easy to cap the cement rather than dig out the old broken parts leftover from the old wall. It will also create a clean finish. Remember the dirt that is there has never been used to hold back water; It was on the dry side of the wall. Capping the top with cement will ensure no problems with leakage. And it will seal the "pool".

I just always thought they would do this. I don't understand the shock.

That was my thought as well, and I'm not even an engineer! ;)

Seriously though, it makes a lot of sense. You don't just dig out earth and fill it with water to create a lasting, well built water system like a (retention) pond, there's more that goes into it than that. The area underneath the old Amity waterfront buildings was likely nothing more than silt/soil left from or filled in during their initial construction and not engineered as a part of the pond. Not very shocking, and really not a lot of work to pour that section over.

I'm hoping they want this done asap to improve traffic flow during HHN and so they can get started on Diagon Alley/ Kings Cross near the wall.

In any event, they have a little over 3 weeks to complete this project for my enjoyment.

Problem is, we cannot tell what is completed on the other side of the 'embankment'. Has any paving happened yet, curbing for the planting areas? The actual statuary doesn't need to be there for it to open. So, we wait for word of lamp posts and lion heads.

In your personal opinion Teebs do you think it's possible to have it open in a few weeks? I could see them not worrying about the first weekend or two with lighter expected crowds at HHNs, but when we get to the third week and it gets to be a real mess then I'm sure that's when the area will benefit the most from improved traffic flow.

Two weeks ago I thought it was possible. Now I just don't know. I cannot tell where they are at with it and how much further they intend to push the realism.

They do appear to be grading on the park side, and a walkway could surely be paved in that time. Planters shouldn't take long either. The key will be good weather.

Colored and stamped concrete (if they go that route) won't take long, curbs can be poured in hours, and planting takes very little time so I would think in under a week all that could easily be done. Probably quicker the way they are going with this. Hope it complete by the time HHNs starts, I would like to see it done.

^ Yeah, HHN might be the key to this opening up. Thanks for the insight into construction times. The end finishing is where I lose any and all insight.

oh yeah I did. woops. lol :sneaky:

I wouldnt be shocked to not see it open any time soon. They might just wanna get the wall done so the waterfront can be restored (no more dam). Then the can take their time with the rest.

I was just looking at the height from the side we will be standing on.Do you think they will have a problem with people trying to stand on the top of the railing/wall ?
( it looks wide enough). Will there have to be a cast member standing there to discourage that ? Signage saying stay off the top of wall ? With a fine of (insert english money amount here)

One tower crane up on site! One thing I'd be interested in is the amount of earth moved this year on property. Got to be massive!
