It is soft opening, when have they ever announced or made a big deal about soft opening? This is literally how the do every new thing in the parks.

We didn't know it was a soft opening until after my post

Hope they do something for it's opening

Do you all think USH will have some type of celebration for the upcoming 1 year anniversary of the opening of Super Nintendo World Hollywood? Universal Japan had a marching band put on a show at their celebration, it'd be nice to see something similar in California:

Sure am thankful this isn’t happening at Disneyland. There would be a three hour line for a bunch of Disney influencers to get a freaking pretzel.

That kind of reminds me how I heard something about how Katzenberg bought the rights to the 90's movie in hopes that they'd use its success to bring Mario into the Disney parks, so in an alternate universe where that movie actually tried to be game faithful or something, we probably would have gotten something like what you're referring to. XD

Really wish we had the square footage to put this in SNW itself — not just for the sake of the land, which needs more stuff, but I’m not totally sure how I feel about two Nintendo themed food locations that aren’t even in the land.

I'd imagine there will be anniversary merch rolled out, alongside the 1 year anniversary Stamp that you can get on the app--but I'd imagine the big focus of whatever a media event could be will be on the Power-Up Cafe.

Speaking of, best to put a link for those who wish to discuss that.

I mean, Japan had a Power-Up Cafe before the land even opened, so I don't see much of a difference here.

Besides, I feel like it being in the land would lead to an influx in crowds in an already busy land, so I think taking some pressure off the land is always nice.

EDIT: Didn't see the link to the now renamed thread, whoops

Another poster said it as well but this is how they have it in Japan as well

It will also kinda spread crowds out, so I'm good with Nintendo stuff not all being in one area.

Let’s keep the Power Up Cafe talk to its thread please. Thanks.

Power Up Cafe

Is the New York facade going away, the taxi is gone and all the stores are closed, the couple upstairs who talk to guests still show up. With Dreamworks theater opening soon, this part of the plaza walk will be an eyesore not matching with the old Hollywood look. If so what could they put there...

Looks cute. Glad to see something back in that venue since the candy store days.

They could probably just send one of the Hashtag Panda costumes over from Jimmy Fallon in Orlando.

Now that I'm kinda over the initial hype about Epic's version of the land, I hope we still get some kind of expansion (perhaps with something Hollywood exclusive) someday. I admittedly sometimes feel a bit bummed that in certain aspects we kind of got dealt a bad hand the one time we got a land first, maybe me being a local kinda factors into that.

Thanks Panda and your apparently indefinite contract.

If Panda could leave then I could see something.....but I see mostly just clones

But if Panda could leave then I think having that area becoming "underground" and giving Toad a real place to do meet and greets (also inside for rainly day meet and greets) and have a area fro Bowser, Yoshi and so on. Then fit in a quick service resturant and as many band games and maybe a second raid/boss

But yeah....we need that panda express RIGHT there, no way we can just move it..lol

I get that Hollywood was low on space, but the sheer amount of things that were cut from the other versions of the land is mindboggling. The land wasn't built for expansion either. For reference, this is everything that Hollywood doesn't have and most likely will never get:
  • Donkey Kong: Mine Cart Madness (ride)
  • Yoshi's Adventure (ride)
  • Mario Motors (gift shop)
  • Funky's Fly and Buy (gift shop)
  • Pit Stop Popcorn (snack stand)
  • Yoshi's Snack Island (snack stand)
  • Diddy's Banana Bonanza (DK snack stand, I came up with the name)
  • The Underground (1 Power Up Band game, one free game)
  • Bongo Bash (DK Power Up Band game)
  • Casino (free game)
  • Music Blocks (free game)
  • Donkey Kong's House (meet and greet)
Missing a few of those things would be fine, but everything stacks up. Just think about the sheer amount of money left on the table from not having the gift shops alone. I went to the park a few months ago and while I liked it, you can feel something is off. I'm worried about USH attendance declining in 2026 after people traveling for Nintendo start going to Epic Universe instead. Why go to the version with 1/3rd of the stuff to do?

I somewhat theorize that some of the choices made for the Hollywood version of the land were influenced by the version that will eventually come to Singapore, which is even more restricted by space. It's a lot cheaper and easier to design 2 versions of the land (Orlando/Japan, Hollywood/Singapore) than 3 distinct layouts.

I think it's tough to quantify how many people are going to Universal Studios Hollywood solely because it has the only Super Nintendo World in North America. I'm sure it factors into people's decision making, but I'm skeptical that a larger version of the land opening in Orlando will materially impact Hollywood's attendance.

Hollywood, even with the addition of Super Nintendo World, is a park largely attended by locals and tourists who want to see the studio tour. That'll almost certainly always be true given its space constraints.

It's going to be extremely hard to expand the land with the layout as it currently is. The only place you can put a pipe is an emergency access point. That's another thing I don't understand about the design of this land. It feels like the bare minimum.
