Whilst I agree about the ridicules slow progress Disney is building things at and the fact that it doesn’t appeal to most on this forum Disney will always have more Magic than Universal due to its back catalogue of history and films and what they mean to everyone across the world.

A story from a well know but neutral forum below. Transformers, Potter or Simpson expansions will never be able to do this and that’s why like it or not MK is the most visited park in the World
.
On my last visit to Orlando I witnessed my very own piece of Disney magic in my favourite place, Magic Kingdom, and I wanted to share.....
We were in the area where all of the bronze status are in front of the castle during the afternoon street party. It was quite a hot day so we were sat on a bench watching everybody have fun to the music.
It was then that I spotted a mum and dad trying to convince their young daughter to get out of her push chair to dance with them. She was reluctant and at that point one of the entertainers on really high stilts came over and crouched down to speak to her. I couldn't hear what he said but he seemed very kind and gentle. The girl got out of her push chair and it was at that point I realised she had Down Syndrome and was around 4. She was a beautiful girl dressed head to toe in Disney attire so was obviously a huge fan!
She posed for a photo with the entertainer and was smiling from ear to ear. She looked so, so happy and that alone gave me goose bumps! The entertainer offered her his hand which she accepted and he led her to the road where all the children were dancing. Her mum followed and was also smiling from ear to ear. The dad stood nearby, camera in hand recording every moment.
The girl danced and danced and also had a cuddle and photo with Jess from Toy Story. When the party finished the mum scooped the girl up and gave her the biggest hug. They then walked over to the Dad who embraced them both and I saw tears rolling down his cheeks, he was obviously so happy too.
I then realised that I was also crying and had probably quite rudely, unknowingly to them, witnessed their special moment. If it wasn't for the entertainer the girl probably would've stayed in her chair and that memory would never have been created.

This is not the place for this discussion, but you lose a significant amount of validity when you make pointless statements like, "Disney will always have more magic..." or "[Universal] will never be able to do this...". I can assure you that things like this happen at Universal daily and theme parks all around the world for that matter. Great story to read however!

This picture is such a good example of how much design and execution standards have changed since the original MK. The building to the far left in this picture is little more than off-the-shelf lumber construction while the new cottage in the distance is custom everything. Amazing how the standards have progressed over time.

I've already reserved this beautiful bathroom for my use in 6 months time with my My Bathroom Magic +© RFID band! Thank you Disney for listening to guest feedback, this will be such a welcomed addition!

Yeah, I have to agree with you here and while I'm a true Disney theme park fan, DVC owner, etc, I think the time for saying Disney has more magic and all the other slams against Universal have no basis in reality anymore. IMO, it's a tired old talking point. Things have have changed for both companies and we the theme park enthusiasts, are the real winners here.

As for the new Tangled area/new bathrooms, it's shaping up nicely and the whole thing just shouts quality. Plus it's a damn site better than seeing the old abandoned Skyway tower chalet or whatever the name for the building was. Disney however should be ashamed and take another look at their plans and time table for building 7DMTR. Way too slow and it's depressing how long it's going to be for the whole area to be open. I'm sure the ride will be beautiful once done, but come on, way too long in building.

I'm heading to the Wilderness Lodge tomorrow and to the Magic Kingdom on Sunday for the first time since Fantasyland reopened. I'm anxious to see the new Fantasyland's theming for myself but I really don't have much interest in any of the attractions there (at least not the ones that are currently finished) but I'll probably ride Mermaid once just because its new to me. Anyway, does anyone who has been there lately know how the crowds in the park have been? I know there was some more interest right after Fantasyland first opened but is it still that way? Or are we back to the typical crowds for this time of year? Just wondering, thanks...

When I went 2 weeks ago, Mermaid fluctuated between 30-60 minutes. Be Our Guest will probably have a massive line as well, since it's the "must-go" place to eat in the MK now.

Crowds will be heavy this weekend as the Daytona 500 always brings in additional crowds to all of central and north Florida.

Totally, it's a very beautiful structure and really shows in stark contrast to the immediate left (as seen in that photo) and right (IASW) of the area.

This better be the most magical bowel movement ever, Disney. It is very pretty, but yeah...bathrooms.

While I appreciate the point you're trying to make, I'd rather have bathrooms than an incredibly tacky and shoehorned flat ride. MK also isn't lacking for rides for the little ones.

A point was brought up earlier by someone who didn't like the direction Disney is heading in currently, and I would have to argue that this assumption is most likely made when you look on the other side of O-Town to see what Universal Orlando is doing over there.

Disney is probably satisfied with what they're doing here with Tangled, whereas Universal would spat at the thought of spending time on such an absurd idea.

Two different mindsets in my opinion here.

Just to play the Devil's advocate here (I realize the point is that Disney should be doing more...) - but currently people are excited for a Simpson expansion. Which, consists of some re-theming, a restaurant and even yes, a bathroom!

New fantasyland will ultimately provide a similar (albeit arguably a more magnificently themed environment thanks to rock work) then the Simpsons/Jurassic Park expansions combined.
Dueling Dumbo's - Kudos and Klangs
Be Our Guest - IFF redo
Snow White - Amber Mine Coaster
Mermaid - If they sneak in a JP dark ride
Plus the shops, meet and greets and a bathroom! Love it or hate it!

Knock Disney for forgetting their E ticket (transformers), and response to HP (never mind the fact they should be doing twice as much with two times the parks).

Ultimately this is a needed step in refreshing the lacking parts of Old fantasyland, it's not a waste of time, but yes, it shouldn't be the only thing they are doing...

That's a fair point. And the fact is, Disney continues to have great business, so I'm sure they're not dying with worry over the competition in the rest of Orlando.

But, we can't just be oblivious to the competition, and here is where my (and others') qualm comes in. We are theme park fans, and we are closely following them. All of them. And not only when comparing WDW with Universal, but also when comparing it to SeaWorld, and hell, even Fun Spot! They're making impressive moves and competing for our business, satisfaction, and return visits; they're putting out new incredibly themed lands, they're amazing us with new innovative attractions, or even just increasing their new offerings by a staggering amount. So, it looks like everyone else in Orlando is currently going hard, and WDW's moves just pale in comparison.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think what's open in New Fantasyland looks beautifully done, and the rest looks to be in the same level of beauty. No one is questioning that. The problem is that Disney, being the industry giant that it is, doesn't seem to be competing at the level of magnitude as the other parks in Orlando right now. And this is even more noticeable and disappointing because they are the industry giant, the top dog in Orlando.

I'm sure the case could be made that being the oldest resort, they've done a lot of growing already... but time goes on, the market keeps moving forward and evolving, and WDW just seems kind of stuck in time, where they've been for years. I'm not going to start listing things, because it's been done before in this thread and in others. But, basically, it's been years and years since anything major has opened in any of the four WDW parks, and now that they are finally doing something new in MK, it's taking foreeeever to open completely. What's there is beautiful, yes, but there's walls and construction right beside it, so you're not fully immersed in the Disney magic here. And then, when it's all said and done, New Fantasyland is nothing mind blowing. Again, it's beautiful, but it's a restaurant, a tavern, meet and greets, and rides with same-ol' tech (spinner, omnimover, and coaster). Nothing is Earth shattering here. I was, and am, excited about the 7DMC coaster, because it did look like it will have a swinging element that I've never experienced before; that did excite me. And you know what? as stupid as it sounds, that attraction might have been the tipping point to make me buy a ticket to go to MK this year. But, Disney has a missed opportunity, because they're dragging this out and out and out... Then, besides that one element, nothing is much innovative or with amazing new technology, so their efforts underwhelm me/us, theme-park fan(s), when seeing everything else that is going on in the Orlando theme park world and market.

Disney has the resources, and they also have a name to live up to. They should be doing better than this. So, that's my opinion, as a theme park fan, and I think I'm not the only one.

Instead they planted a TON of trees today. I honestly believe that's a better use of space then another flat!

I hope, hope, hope they have some foliage in mind for the giant expanse Dumbo once occupied!

Totally agree with you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the level of quality of the project they are working on, they just should be doing about 4X more to match Universals pace at only two parks.

Bring on three more bathrooms!!!
