I don't think anyone ever doubted the land would look amazing. The doubt was the popularity of the IP. It looks fantastic and I can't wait to visit.

I always wonder why people doubt the IP. The cinema made over $2 Billion.

Well i just woke up and watched the various clips...

Still meh on it. The Navi "hello" part made me giggle. The careful placement of the camera to obscure the floating mountains - let's be honest they're more like precarious buttresses, they at no point appear to really float in the land or even the concept art - also got a chuckle out of me.

Because it's an 8 year old film that culturally disappeared as fast as it showed up. Otherwise known as a "flash in the pan." It's not a film that maintained any vigor.

EDIT - Doctor Zhivago, when adjusted for inflation, made over 2 billion. So did Sound of Music, the Ten Commandments and Gone With The Wind. That doesn't mean they'd be theme park draws.

You mean an hour later?

I think most people here are excited for the land. I know I am and have stated that multiple times.

Because, even though it made a bazillion $$$$, it never entered the zeitgeist of pop culture. It, as an IP, evaporated.

I'd say the most unintended but telling thing they did was show the film clip.

The clip they showed was just a showcase of CGI for CGI's sake and something audiences have generally grown very tired of seeing.

The other clips they've used in the past with the landscape and banshees were "ok" and didn't do much for me one way or another but gave me an idea of the look..

That clip of him with the plants retreating and then the rhinobug beast, that made me go "god, that film was pretty awful wasnt it?"

They only shows the CGI slips because the only thing this land has going for it is the large floating mountain. Can't show 20 shots of it!

I think it looks fake an not impressive. The more and more I see the less I'm impressed. Rocks, moss, and foliage does not make an immersive environment to me. Stop calling them floating mountains because all you see is one rock work arch. They're not floating and the it doesn't appear to be floating. Stop using the word bioluminescence because it's not. It's a plastic plants with leds, led strips lighting up the trees, and some projection on the rock arch. I just don't get it. I've said all along this is just going to cannibalize DHS attendance and that's what it will do.

I respect your opinion, but disagree with it. I think we're getting into the same territory of people calling the Jimmy Fallon theater fake because they have fans hanging from the ceiling.

I am sure I will work in a visit once the bloggers and lifestylers clear out. Not in a hurry to get there, it isn't going anywhere

You must not enjoy any other theme park land then. Stop calling the Gringotts Bank a Bank, it's not a bank. That's not a dragon on top of it either, its metal and plastic. *Debbie downer*

Stop being petty - especially you, @Miketheboss. No one on this board, save for a couple people, never said it wouldn't look awesome. The conversation was always will it be relevant and as successful as Disney wants it to be.

I have not been to Disney since before Seven Dwarfs mine train. Avatar will get me to Disney. I am hopeful to see it this year.

From that Good Morning America video, it does seem as though we will be made to feel we are in a different world. I am hopeful of that. As a guest that is one of the best feelings. Feeling as though you are no longer in the world you know it.

The floating mountains don't really look convincing at all. Other than that, the land looks good.

My problem with the video, at least to me, is that it didn't feel they were putting a good effort to hype it up. We've seen the floating mountains, the waterfalls cascading, and the plants. They didn't spend a lot of time on the things we haven't seen. I thought the food and drink would have been a good start, but it was only a few seconds and it was very obvious she faked the "it's good" (not saying it is or isn't, but she was starting her sentence before she took the fork out of her mouth).
