The floating Navi seems not to be an AA but a water buoyant neutral figure with a system (pneumatics/hydraulics/servos) to articulate the arms and legs. So still an animated figure, but still a great effect.

I know what an AA is... intimately. He has several show profiles that he performs. As I said, he is controlled by a show system independent of the movement/buoyancy effects of the water

If I'm not mistaken, aren't the ghosts in the Ballroom scene of the Haunted Mansion, not in the room itself, and that they are behind the guest eye? I could see that being a similar way of them tackling the Animatronic.

The ones pn the chandelier are above the ride track, along with the painting gunfight. Everything else is below. Its being reflected back from a huge pane of glass (several). Trivia: If the glass ever needed to be replaced, they would need to remove the roof.
