I don't understand the Original v. IP argument. There's great original stuff... and there is great IP stuff. There's horrible original stuff... and there is horrible IP stuff. At the end it's just how well an attraction translates to guests no matter the story behind it.

Depends on a parks needs. Sometimes you need an IP to launch a product like Harry Potter. Sometimes a park is already strong enough they don't need a big IP to launch a new attraction like Cedar point.

In the late 90's early 2000's, there would have been light rail from North Orlando, to DIsney area with stops including downtown. Perfect world right? It was Axed by the small minded voters here at the time. (Population wasn't even a million but very close.) Orlando was very closed minded. Small buildings downtown instead of taller, no forward thinking with growth or transit in mind. That Money went to Charlotte which is why they have a light rail system.

Shoot forward a few years and High Speed Rail was supposed to go from AIrport to Downtown Tampa with stop at DIsney. Well , Disney wansn't on board really, and a lot of other local political issues.

Orlando International to Orange County Convention Center was supposed to me 'American Maglev' which had the right of way to build and was approved. But , apparently, the guy who proposed it wasn't 'Funded' enough. That plan was ditched. There are plans for a connector 'Whatever that means' from Orlando International to Convention center. Downtown Orlando is serviced by Sun Rail which could easily be connected at Sand Lake Road, which just so happens to be under expansion AND the road New Universal will be associated with ...

Brightline has eventual Plans to go from Orlando to Tampa, thats at least a decade away though.

I agree. Orlando/Orange County can build beutiful highway systems second to no one in America, but when it comes to working together as a full government with a great vision, they lack substantially. I hope that changes. This city has various clusters of entertainment, and live work play that can all be connected by some sort of other means than driving and it needs to be an option if growth rates stay above 70% - 80% as projected.

Maybe not so, there are still plans for an 'Airport Connector' very much because of Lake Nona anyway.

Not sure where they plan to put the BrightLine station in Orlando, but it would be cool to take a train from Palm Beach to Orlando then just move to UoR for a few days...hop the train back...if they make that affordable and convenient, that would get a few cars off the roads...

If Brightline Comes to Orlando it will be possible. Brightline will be at the Airport Transportation Terminal ($1Billion Train Station with no trains), and then you will be able to catch Lynx Bus, private Transit, Uber, Lyft, and hopefully SunRail to your destination. One Day in the next 5 years this will be true.

if you're referring to how I stated I doubted there would be any original attractions, I wasn't saying it was a travesty, I would like some original attractions but the fact that they're IP-based doesn't lessen their value for me in the slightest, my favorite attractions at both the parks are FJ and Mummy :peace:

Would Universal have to reveal their land redevelopment plans to the county before they start building? Maybe we might start seeing things soon.

I would assume they would have to, similar to when Skyplex was at meetings to get it approved, due to that the project would be probably a 3-5+ billion dollar investment, that would affect the Kirkman extension.

That said, I would think we will not see it until the Stan Thomas case wraps up in April/May.

More than likely we will see a general vision of the land, but it won’t be exactly what will be built. It is just to get approval.

Orange county seems to be pretty picky in their approvals, so I think detailed plans will be required and the process could take a while. The plans likely won't have many details regarding theme and interior designs though.

The best bit of info we’ll get from those meetings will be the max height throughout the land. If we’re lucky they’ll include information on what will generally be placed where.

The info will definitely contain specific locations for where the buildings, roads, utilities, and green spaces are because that's the stuff the county is looking for in deciding whether or not to give approval. We should know quite a bit about what is being built before construction gets underway.

Honestly, I think we'll get more of outlines to how the resort may be layed out specifically, almost similar to how the NBCUniversal Evolution Plan gave almost of a map of what we should expect (and similar to how Beijing has one too if I remember). It would have to be a rough layout, but it would probably make sense.

That's expected. Labeled areas showing where a hotel, park, entertainment zones will be.

These are gonna be an exciting years of speculation lol.

Oh yeah, once things move forward with approval and permits, this forum is going to blow up with discussion real quick. And that it's going to be big for IU, as we haven't had that technically for us oldies on USHForums since the Evolution Plan got approved.

A lot of fun development is going to come out, and I am enthusiastic to see what we get of information over the course of next year, as it won't be a Beijing/Osaka situation to where we are more limited of those due to international barriers.

Just to build on that international barriers part quickly.

Shanghai Disney’s biggest fear was copycats. Copyright law is very lax in China. They kept the park very secret until the end because of the fear that other parks would slap together similar rides that could open before Shanghai DL did.

I personally think that this thread will get popular real quick come August. If things don't start moving by then, I'll be surprised.

Then again, this is Universal we're talking about. They seem to change their mind every two hours ;)
