Thor shaved his hair in Ragnorok, but either way, he's still very OBVIOUSLY Thor. People don't care that it's the Comic book characters. Hulk and Spidey are two of the most popular rides in all of UOR.

If they built another new ride, people would only care about if they liked the ride or not. Just think of the disaster it would've been if MSHI based their Marvel rides on the movie characters. We have had three Hulks (Eric Bana, Edward Norton, Ruffalo) and three Spider-Man's (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Holland) in the period of time that the park has been open. Sure it will be great to see the GotG crew from the MCU in the ride at Epcot (and is well done at DCA), but this is also something that is going to age very poorly, imo.

I think the land is a good reminder of where the films come from.

Therefore it will remain timeless and relevant long after the films.

If they were able to make a Marvel ride and included sound-alikes akin to Hermoine, I'm sure the GP would barely notice nor care. Nobody seems to care about how the actress doesn't look or sound like her on the Potter rides and people don't seem to care if Harrison Ford isn't featured in the Indiana Jones ride. The GP doesn't care that Spidey in the ride isn't depicted by Tom Holland or Andrew Garfield. Why? Because they're good rides. That's all they care about, and that's ultimately what matters, right? Just get some sound alikes, don't show their faces, or at least hire look alikes, and you're set.

FJ used the original cast and Gringotts used the likeness of Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Keyword being likeness.

They could always make the characters look similar to the MCU like how they changed Doc Oc to look like how he does in Spider-Man 2 but not exactly.

They can make them similar to MCU if Disney/Marvel allows them. Maybe that's the key reason why we've only seen renovations and nothing new which is crazy as now is the prime time to do something.

¥ou're right technically.

However, it's a Marvel-based land in a major theme park in Orlando. People don't know the land is based on the comics and not MCU until they step foot in the land. The point is that the hype is at an all time high between Black Panther and Infinity War and yet Universal still has pretty much the same land they had after they opened Storm Force. They're missing their chance at exploiting a golden age of comic book movies/fans.

Bait and switch is a slippery slope, it didn't work with F&F and I think it's a risk.

I'm not saying that MSHI can't be great on it's own merits because it obviously can and has been. My original point to all this is that no matter what Universal do, it's going to inevitably be compared to the MCU and people will be entering the land with impossible expectations.

That's all well and good, but I think the idea that a great ride won't meet those expectations because it doesn't feature the voice of RDJ or something wouldn't pan out in the real world. Maybe people would wonder why they didn't use the actor, but in the end I don't think they'd really care all that much if the ride was great.

Hell, I'm sure people are already confused why Tom Holland isn't voice Spider-Man in the ride, but no one's complaining.

Really? Radcliffe wasn’t even in Gringotts? Wow, I never knew that until now. Even more fuel for my case. Even I didn’t notice.

As Skip said, people aren't going to overly care that it's not based on the MCU. They may wonder why RDJ isn't present in an Iron Legion ride (or his voice), but if it's a great ride, who cares? Also, they can get a sound-a-like to RDJ (or JARVIS) if they want and Marvel allows it. It's not like there aren't options.

And honestly, with an Iron Legion attraction, I think people would care even less because I can see the queue being INSANE. Also you'd be riding in an Iron Man suit so.... yeah. It would top any negative of "where's the MCU?".

It doesn’t really as he was only on screen for about 20secs and in the distance plus Universal are purposefully trying to fool you into thinking it’s him. Universal aren’t trying to convince you that Tony Stark will be played by RDJ, it will be a different version of that character.

I often wonder, how many people really are that into the movies to begin with that they would notice things like that, or let it bother them. Heck, in a lot of foreign countries these movies are probably dubbed to begin with. Personally, I generally don't care much for Marvel, only thing I saw that I really liked was Guardians of the Galaxy. I saw some Spiderman movies, never liked them much, yet I love the ride; so that is what I often wonder, for all the many people going to Uni and enjoying these rides, how many really care about the IPs? Kind of funny really, I like Uni, but care little about most of the IPs.

My family is a lot the same.

Aside from Harry Potter, they don't care for much of the IPs at all, but they enjoy the rides. I know for sure my Mom has never seen Men in Black, yet it's her favorite ride. I know my sister has never watched a single Marvel movie, but Hulk is her favorite ride in Orlando. My brother didn't read and barely watched Potter and is still confused when he goes through the area, but loves FJ.

You don't need to have an understanding of the IP to enjoy a ride.

The bottom line is - if it’s a masked character, it doesn’t matter.

If it’s a face character, it would be dumb.

I.e- Spider-Man, Hulk (not dr banner), Iron Man, Black Panther- good to go.

Thor, Dr Strange, Hawkeye, Black Widow, etc- wouldn’t work.

That’s why I think Iron Legion would work perfectly. They could be bold enough to not even include Tony Stark beyond a mention of Stark Industries in the queue.

Plus they could use any English person for Jarvis as Americans think all British people sound the same.

JARVIS would need to sound at least somewhat like Paul Bettany.

Even Disney used a sound alike for their own Iron Man ride. They kept him in the suit so you never really notice it’s not RDJ.

I never question Spider-Man in his ride, and we’ve seen three different actors portray him since the ride opened. I think his voice is perfect on that ride. “This could be the most dangerous night of my life, and yours... Nice shades.”

Well, that ride is also in Chinese

I feel like, when they can, Disney wants to use to MCU actors in their Marvel rides. And since Disney owns Marvel, it'll be easy to switch out if they recast the character.

Iron Man only speaks English on that ride. Everyone else is speaking Chinese.

Yea and I'm pretty sure initially they billed the ride as starring RDJ, but that fell apart eventually

They probably didn’t want to pay him an obscene amount for a so-so ride in Hong Kong.

Marvel likes to pretend that Norton never existed.
