To also add, the entire theater is now gutted. I alluded to this back a while back, and that IU has now officially mentioned it in their article.

If you would like to see more photos of not just DWT, but projects like ASS; the Lower Lot expansions, and more; check out the article.

Are the new soundstages down by the lake replacing old soundstages? What is the impact going to be of these new stages?

It’s odd to see the trucks parked in the area slated for park expansion. It’s as if universal can’t make its mind up.

On the landscaping front, it’s interesting to see the sparse desert plants in the planters unlike the leafy lush plants found in Orlando. I guess water remains tight in Southern California still?

I just posted about those stages on the "It's Just In" thread too.

I took the Studio Tour two days ago while visiting LA for HHN and there are two new soundstages being built near the Earthquake building.

They could’ve easily have made this another extension of Harry Potter. Now we’re getting another 3D attraction. If it had to be about Deamworks, why not a roller coaster based on HTTYD?

Probably because they want to have a flex theater for whatever they may wish. If they want to get rid of SES or possibly even AA in the future to add rides, at least they will have this to work with.

To be completely honest, not much could really fit into that space to begin with, and that it would make more sense to offer something that can be changed at any given time without issue. Something like DWT, if handled similar to the Osaka 4-D theater, would be great.

Just make sure it has two theaters to optimize how many shows there can be in a single day, however mind you.

It doesn't have as much space and with Disney's potential full merger with 21st Century Fox (which Comcast screw themselves out of the opportunity since Universal parks has the Simpsons area), Universal isn't gonna try and extend a 3rd party property when it already owns a DreamWorks Animation property where they don't have to share money at all and hasn't used it to the full extent.

Universal didn't screw themselves out of anything. There simply is more antitrust issues with Comcast than with Disney, thus a higher chance of the deal passing. Add in that it's an all-stock deal and Disney is picking up Fox's debt, Disney became the obvious choice for the Murdochs.
