Kiddie coasters aren't intense, have cramped vehicles, last 30 seconds, and are for the 5 under crowd. (IE The Barnstormer, Flight of the Hippogriff).

Family coasters aren't too intense, have comfy vehicles, last at least 1 and a half-2 minutes, and is something the whole family will enjoy (IE Big Thunder).

Since SDMT doesn't qualify for the kiddie coaster class, it will be a family coaster.

7DMT will be considerably shorter and less thrilling than Big Thunder Mountain.

I know that, I just think calling it a kiddie coaster seems off. I mean, it's really 2, maybe 3 times the size of a kiddie coaster.

As I said I think it is going to fall between a "kiddie coaster" and a "family coaster". When I think of Family Coasters I think of BTMRR, Space Mountain, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

I am wondering what the height restriction will be on this thing. I am guessing 35".

Touring Plans and Allears say it will be 40 inches.

The old Snow White mine ride didn't have a height requirement. Every little girl and boy could go on an adventure seeing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The mine ride will be a nice addition, but they really screwed up by not putting a new dark ride into the old Snow White facility.

Unfortunately, I don't see one going in there any time soon either. With all the money they are dumping in to a F'ing M&G and the fact that Fantasyland has seen a lot of love over the past few years. If MK gets anything in the coming years, I would hope for it to be a TL overhaul (it needs it most). Rumors constantly come up about something in Frontierland though, so I wouldn't be surprised there either.

Kiddy coasters are specifically built for children, and adults can only ride them if they have a child with them. Anything else that is considered a tame coaster is a family coaster, regardless of it meeting your impossible standards of matching one of the best themed family coasters ever built.

I would classify Barnstormer, Shamu Express, Air Grover, Woody's Nuthouse Coaster, and even Flight of the Hippogriff as kiddie coasters.

I have never seen a coaster requiring a kid to ride, even this one.

The only time I have run into any kiddie coaster not letting me ride with my kids was at the local fair here in Palm Beach County. I don't recall ever running into that situation at any established park.

edit: Actually I wouldn't label this as a kiddy coaster either.

I believe the term we are all searching for is "junior coaster"? I don't know. But I still say your standards for a "family coaster" are a bit too high. As far as I'm concerned, a family coaster is simply a coaster that is accessible to everyone (except for pregnant ladies and your 99-year-old grandma, etc.). It has nothing to do with the length, it's the thrill level.

Honestly I'm not sure why I care so much about this. Nobody puts the bigger coasters into intricate subcategories based on their level of thrills. Carry on.

I'm sure 7DMT will have an amazing interactive queue to make up for the shorter ride time.

Looking at the pictures and mock up videos I don't know why they couldn't make 7DMT a 36" restriction, the drops don't appear higher or more thrilling than Barnstormer.

Its actually quite prevalent on a host of rides throughout the Six Flags chain. That isn't to slam Universal, but it is common in the overall amusement industry. I understand why Universal does it, and I don't think there really is a solution in managing the demand:capacity of the ride. Every now and then you will see the TMs relax if it is a walkon early morning or close to park closing.

I would also add that I like that they give FOTL certificates out to children who are too small to ride. When they come back and are tall enough, they can use the FOTL pass. I also have ridden it with a number of kids, and the first few times, I was caught off guard how violently it can swing, as I am shouting to a squirmy 5 year old, "HOLD ON".

I thought the restraints determined the height limit. Millenium Force is 310 feet tall and it only has a 42" height requirement.
