Still too early to tell, this picture is pretty much proving that they're changing the theming not the ride system itself. It is an overlay by the looks of it

An overlay is what the Jingle Cruise is. Whether this follows the same ride path or not, there's still extensive work being done.

It's not "just an overlay". It's not a trackless ride either, but it's not just an overlay.

I consider Stage 44 to Transformers extensive...this is Ghostbusters to Twister for me...I suppose I should use the term rejuvenation..

I guess I can agree with that. Although a true rejuvenation would be giving Maelstrom a complete overhaul/re-do it desperately needed, not putting Frozen in it's place.

I think the right word would be repurposing.

Yes.

They weren't going to install Olaf randomly, but it was known the scenes were being gutted and this proves it (the back wall that's being painted is the old storm scene).

On the scale, this is like Dreamflight becoming Buzz Lightyear.

So, it is assumed this will remain a boat ride, correct?

Guys, first rule of anything Disney Park related. Never underestimate the "fans". I've taken a trip to some Disney-centric fansites and there are definitely people who thought (and are still thinking) this is going to be a simple overlay.

For me, this ain't a overlay. An' overlay is something like The Gran Fiesta Tour, or something like the Haunted Mansion Holiday.
What's going on with Malestrom is a bit more extensive looking, and if the rumors are true that the unload station will become the load station (The old theater and gift shop becoming the entrance/queue) and the load station turning into the unload...that's gonna' involve a good amount of changes especially if it's still a boat ride.

It will remain as a boat ride, that has been confirmed.

I'm honestly not sure that this is true.

I mean, it would seem given rumors and budget we've heard that it will stay the same, but no one has actually officially "confirmed" it at Disney.

How would this work? I would think this would screw up the entire flow, unless they are reversing the entire course.

From what i've heard, the current load area will turn into a ride scene (not unload as the poster describes) and load/unload will both be where the unload was for Maelstrom.

That makes the most sense to maximize space in the building and adding another scene.

I'm not sure why the attitude.

I know it's going to be a boat ride. I was simply saying it hasn't been "confirmed".

Load/Unload in the same area makes sense, especially since the theater can now be used for queue space.

The one extra scene will be nice...Lord knows they will need a huge queue for this ride...terrible capacity plus popular franchise = pain

I wish there was someway they could make the drop steeper and taller, I know this is no Splash Mountain...I just want big drop to look forward too..

They could potentially increase capacity a bit if they order larger boats.

The capacity will still suck, but it will at least help a little.

Hopefully it will take some of the burden off Soarin and Test Track, crowd wise.
