Regardless of what happens I will still have fun at HHN's this year. I mean I can live with 6 houses one year for the sake of possibly adding three Eticket level attractions over the next three years.

HHN makes Universal a tremendous amount of money in a time of the year where tourism is significantly slower, they won't throw that cash cow to the way side. They also just know 3 E-tickets is going to bring them a lot more financial security than 8 temporary haunted houses.

And I can live with 6 houses if it happens too. I honestly think they won't cut the amount of actors they initially intended for the event. I think it's more likely we'll see an extra street, or the houses could have more actors, something fans have complained about in the more recent years.

Jake how many actors are cast on a street vs a house? Is it the same? Differ by zone or house size?

While 6 houses would be disappointing, I'd be able to live with it as long as the rest of the houses were strong and there was plenty of extra entertainment.

I'm assuming Minion Mayhem will be open, which gives the event an extra ride. And maybe they'll do something like open ET if they're worried about capacity? I dunno. I'm also going to assume that we're getting a special version of Cinespec for a showing or two, which would help as well. And while I know it has a bad rap in the fan community, maybe showings of Beetlejuice or something?

I figure they're going to have to do some things to shuffle people around here.

Nothing will probably be in Beetlejuice. Expect 3 shows this year, a more Horror oriented version of Cinespec, Bill and Ted and some sort of portable show. The portable shows, a la Death Drums, draws huge crowds and diverts traffic nicely, but it comes out of the Beetlejuice gate and the que can not go there, so no show in Beetlejuice. The notion of something in Animal Actors is on the table for crowd flow.

Minion Mayhem will definitely be open. In 2006 Jimmy Neutron and Shrek were open, and The Simpsons has been open every year since it's induction. RockIt will be open, as will The Mummy, MIB and The Simpsons to help with crowds.

On the note of actors per a cast, I think it's about 18-24 per a cast. There is honestly very little difference in Street v. Houses, with cast size, streets might be a little smaller but not significantly. At that the street Deadtroplis had one of the largest cast, I think it had 40 per a cast, but if you went in that street you understand why they had so many.

I just don't think Minions or Shrek will help with crowds when there is only six houses, I dont claim to know anyting, just speaking from personal preferences. The only reason I do rides is to kill time until it gets dark, and the very last thing I'm going to do is either Shrek or DM.
Not compairing the two but HOS had six last year and the lines were insane before they even started letting them in the houses and they don't have the numbers of HHNs. The traffic count they want to cross a threshold per house/per hour is high and they waits would quite a bit longer. If its only six I expect the frequent passes with expresss won't be offered this year to cut down the wait times in the regular que.
Most likely, if there are only six I will probably only go for one night instead of the usual two.

Wow, the age draw on HHN is really tight and the best demo; 18-31 appears the 70% age? Also the most erratic. How universal keeps this event nailed down is beyond me. Security must be very 'firm'.

I would say that demographic is easily over 50% but less than 60%. I would say that what constitutes another huge portion of the event is teenagers going with their parents. I had never really realized it until probably 2 years ago but you see a large group of teenagers with one parent. Security is extremely tight, lots of OPD and Universal Security. I honestly have never felt threatened at the event as a guest.

Rides will always have some sort of a wait at HHN because some people just come to HHN to ride the rides and hang out in the streets and there are plenty of other people who get stupidly scared in the streets and decide to just ride the attractions. RockIt and Mummy will have long waits most nights, with how fresh Despicable Me is I expect the same.

Thanks for the clarification on the demo. The caveat of parents with teens is helpful. How that is easily mixed with 21+ drinking is beyond me. It seems sooooo complicated. Turns out, it is complicated, and you need pro's of every kind to pull it off. The cost vs. profit thing is so beyond me... where the line is drawn, etc.

It's extremely complicated, but this is how somebody put it to me. If 5,000 people come in the first hour and say 15% of those people (a conservative estimate) buy $10 worth of alcohol, whether it be a souvenir mug or 2 beers, what have you, that is $7,500 in the first hour of the event. Now take into account the stupid mark up Universal is making on alcohol, and then think of the stupid amount they're making on soda and food and you realize that this event truly is a cash cow. They also sell significantly more merchandise since it's such a short event and has such a reputation.

Yeah, I completely forgot the reputation. Best of the best is how I believe it is perceived. To have a t-shirt stating you were there must be a bit of a status symbol. Hmmmm... (doesn't Teebin seem oddly interested in HHN this year when he has never been and will never go? Curious huh)

You can say what you want but to 16 year old's it might not be a status symbol per se, but it's definitely somewhat notorious and extremely glamorized.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm in the age demographic, but I think I'm more biased because I like haunts.

Yeah, I can vouch for the teenage demographic myself, too. And to say that in this past year alone that I've seen shirts reading "The House Always Wins" at school at least a dozen times a day following the month October is a major understatement.

So, other than the fact that I need to get a t-shirt, what else should I take from this?

Its not like its a big frat party, all though a few have that mentality and can get annoying.

I would Think alcohol/drinks/soda sales are the biggest money makers, based on mark ups and Uni pushing them in the lines, followed by merchandise and then food.

Considering all the stories I've heard about the event, I was impressed by the way people handled themselves. There were a few annoying drunks, but no one was really all that bad.

In my decade in Orlando, I've seen a lot more annoying drunks at Food & Wine than at HHN. Security is just too tight for people to get too out of control.

Rumor has it there will only be one real scare zone this year. The rest will be roaming hordes.

Oh, and no icon.
