Here comes "the twist"... Jack isn't the icon after all?

Even though that would really suck, I have to admit I would laugh pretty hard.

Or... Maybe we get to vote for a scare zone this year like Hollywood did last year?

I don't mean to pick on you dude, but come on. Jack suddenly isn't the icon? Why on earth would they do that? We have the scare zone list, which granted is more fluid than the house list, but we don't have any indicators that this is building to a "vote off" between concepts.

The social media post today was a bit cruel, since it didn't amount to any real announcement despite implying we'd learn about the "twist" if we got enough likes. But... what can you do. Their marketing department is... well, we know how we all feel about marketing.

The Jack not being an icon was meant more as a joke, but to answer your question of why would they do that... to have more than 1 icon (which has been done a few times).
We don't have any indicators except the fact that there is supposedly more than 1 list of scare zones (questionable) and that their facebook mentions there could be a twist. Since you seem to know everything, why not share what the twist is instead of telling me what it isn't?

I'd be willing to wager the list we have right now isn't what the final product will be. Chances are most of it is correct, but a few things will be off (even if just a little). Besides... Some of the stuff on the current list is awfully vague.

Fallow knows what he's talking about man. I dont know what the twist would be but a twist to us and a twist to the general public are two different things. Jack is the icon and the focus of the event, of all the shaky stuff I've heard about this event that is the one thing I'm absolutely sure of.

If Jack is the focus of the event, how will they tie him to TWD?

They won't. That was HHN of the past (where all the houses were related to an overarching theme). HHN of the present is a contest to see how many people the IP of the month can bring in, with the occassional fan service thrown in to create hype and shut the fans up.

Exactly... Which is why Jack isn't really the focus of the event. At best, they may use him to assist with some of the marketing and bring him in to do his show.

Some are under the impression that the whole park will be turned into a carnival theme. That really doesn't jive with the house list or the scare zones we're looking at, does it?

And those people are wrong. The aesthetic of like, the bar wraps may skew carnival (ala the current logo), but the overall theme will not be carnival like Carnival of Carnage. Jack is the marketing face of the event - only guy marketing & A&D can agree on. It'll be Jack + Walking Dead, Insidious, Scream & Freddy vs. Jason. Jack's at the top of the list because he's a uniting "face..." but yeah, that's it.

The "twist," as I already noted, turned out to be nothing - just poor wording from a marketing intern. And even if it wasn't, it'd be an announcement of something we already know - a house on the list, most likely.

Just because someone threw out another list of potential scare zones does not give it legitimacy. People are backing one leaked list for a reason. There's definitely some flex room with the scare zones - more so than for the houses, and this was even stated when it originally got released - but we aren't gonna see a "vote for a scare zone!" like you've now suggested randomly on both this forum and Nightmares.

My "vote for a scare zone!" suggestion isn't totally random since Hollywood did do it last year and it would make sense for them to attempt to actively engage people on social media in order to promote the event. I guess I'm giving them too much credit.
Maybe if enough people talk about it, there may come a day when it actually happens. I thought it was a simple good idea that could get the gp involved that would cost Universal basically nothing.

So... you truly believe there is no "twist"? How could releasing a house on the list be a "twist"? I just can't see how they would have used that word in that manner to describe that.

There is no twist. They already followed up this morning with a construction photo and promise of another announcement in the coming weeks. It was terrible wording.

It's random in the sense that it isn't happening this year and you're suggesting it could. Again, stop confusing your wishful thinking with legitimate speculation. Legacy already explained why that's especially unlikely to happen in Orlando, so I'm not going to repeat him.

Is there an issue with me sharing my thoughts on what I read?
Regardless of what you say, there was a "twist"... It was posted, therefore I'm commenting on it.

"Again, stop confusing your wishful thinking with legitimate speculation." = Ridiculous Comment

I'm not confusing anything... I'm just trying to promote HHN discussion. Meanwhile, you seem to be implying that only "legitimate speculation" can be discussed.

There is some sort of announcement taking place today in London at the Savoy Hotel in the Pinafore Room. I believe they already gave out memory sticks with info on them to certain members of the press.
See Twitter here:

What do you think the press event is for, An American Werewolf in London or something else?

Ya know, there was that blue police box in AWiL back when they did it a couple years ago. I'd be beyond ecstatic if by some miracle Dr. Who came to HHN. I know, I know, I can't share my hopes and dreams here right? Dr. Who clearly is not legitimate speculation because it's not on the list.

List or not.... Dr. Who is not legitimate speculation because it's not a legitimate IP to base horror off of.

^^^ Are you kidding me? Have you even watched Dr. Who? There are a ton of horrific creatures that could be used for a house.

Man... so no announcement? He flew out to London to only drop some clues? That's a little absurd.

Really? Feel free to offer what you'd like to see at HHN (we all do from time to time), but keep it in the boundaries of reality and don't clog the thread with it. It's a thread for HHN 25, and what is happening at it - so if it isn't real speculation, then what's the point? I don't mean to thread police (that's not my job), but all you've done is "ask questions" - people answer that it isn't happening - then you complain about "why not," and we go down this rabbit hole.

You can create your own thread if you want to share all your armchair stuff. It's been done and can be quite entertaining. But know that that list is pretty damn accurate and you'd be foolish to mock us for thinking so.

Bingo. Doesn't matter how many scary creatures it has, it isn't viewed as a horror IP. A&D are definitely fans of the series and will sneak in tributes where they can (Weeping Angel in 2011, Doctor's appearance in B&T 2010, aforementioned TARDIS).

What exactly have I complained about? I brought up the Caretaker (Scream House), voting for a scare zone, and Dr. Who. Two of those things have already taken place at some point (1 of them should appear this year in some capacity) and Dr. Who is just an ip I (along with many) want to see. I thought it was amusing that we are probably getting a Scream house when there was an icon house called Scream House. What's the big deal about bringing it up (especially since this is an anniversary year)? Just because you may have a direct contact that gives you information that is 100% accurate, that doesn't mean everyone else does.

I realize the list is pretty accurate, I'm not sure why you think I'm doubting it. How am I mocking anyone? All I'm saying is that until there is an official announcement, there is a chance it could change a little. Furthermore, there are houses on the list like the Anniversary type house which no one knows exactly what it will really be called and what will be in it. I like asking questions because I enjoy hearing the thoughts of other people who care about HHN like I do. Recently this thread hasn't exactly been booming with posts, I believe asking questions gets people talking more than doing nothing.

Bingo... Yeah.... Because nothing screams horror like Alice in Wonderland right?

Scary Tales is one of the most successful and one of my favorite reoccurring houses (PsychoScareapy being the other front runner). Alice in Wonderland is incredibly creepy given the spin that they do. If they were to do Dr Who it would have to be Dr Who because it isn't a story that everyone knows so they would have to stay faithful the the story.

I'm not a huge fan of Dr Who but I can't see it filling the place of a typical house nor a comedy house.

You keep complaining that we're shooting down your ideas as "not gonna happen" this year. Because they aren't. You're objecting to something that isn't really debatable. You presented that you were "holding out hope" that Scream would really be "Screamhouse," even going so far as to say the list didn't necessarily specify that we'd be getting the Scream the IP (even though it did), it could've meant a Scream house. You also kept insisting there'd be a twist after that poorly worded social post when there wasn't. If that isn't twisting words, I don't know what is.

Again, the issue is you presenting your wishful thinking as legitimate speculation. It's not a problem to introduce something ("hey, you think we'll get a Screamhouse sequel this year?"), it's another to keep insisting it could happen when you're told that it isn't happening.

I know some people who know some people who confirm things, and it tends to be stuff that has already been publicly released (ala the leaked lists). When I (and others) give comments to stuff like this, it's because we're trying to help. If you want to continue to play with unrealistic expectations, be my guest, I guess.

You keep questioning the list. You've done it repeatedly, both for the houses and the zones. That's why I think you're doubting it. And you're implying that those who are trusting the list (and have reason to trust it) shouldn't because "things change." Of course they can change. AWIL got cut with months to go for Silent Hill. Stuff happens. But as of now, this is the list, and it's what we should trust. If you were talking about the potential content of the Anniversary house (ala will it be icon-focused? A combination of houses from the past?), then that'd be great, and you'd see no complaints from me. It's this "what if we got a Screamhouse for HHN25!" talk that is unrealistic.

Alice in Wonderland is public domain and is popular fodder for haunted attractions, mostly because the material is so inherently bizarre already. Presenting a well-known work with a "scary" twist is a horror staple (after all, we have Scary Tales). Doctor Who is a specific, non-horror IP that people don't immediately associate with horror. It also, as of this year, isn't going to happen.
