I'm sure we'll know in plenty of time. You can binge watch a season in a day.

Unless what I read is incorrect (and it could be), it said that they aren't announcing the theme until the actual premiere (Sept 14th). Personally I find that if this is true, it is pretty absurd. How will they advertise the show leading up to it without giving away the theme?

Speaking as a marketing professional, there's actually been a big trend in the whole "mystery box" concept.

People seem to be willing to buy into paying for something without knowing 100% what they will get...as long as they trust the company of course.

Need proof? Look at Lego Collectable Minifigures, Funko's Mystery Minis, the plethora of Loot Crate variations out there, Collector's Corps, Smuggler's Bounty, I could go on and on.

Anyway, think of this as a really big mystery box. People are already salivating over any little kernel of information then can find about the new season.

Some might say that they're getting more buzz around people NOT knowing the theme than they would if they revealed it, and disappointed a chunk of their audience.

As for how that would work with a HHN maze...

Advertising that you're going to include some major set pieces from season 6 into the house will drive some AHS fans that might not have normally attended just to see what might be coming this season.

Then, the house might generate some interest from the attendees to see how the scenes they were part of get worked into the show and watch a few episodes.

It's what we call synergy (a big fancy buzzword).

Sorry. Not to turn this into the AHS marketing board. Just an opinion.

Once they announced that AHS will be premiering on employee/media day of HHN, which is the first time in the shows history that it starts in Sept, I felt like the two would be connected by more than just a name. I have a good feeling that a portion of the house will be set in Season 6.

As much as people like to think this type of marketing synergy doesn't work, it does! I NEVER thought I would watch TWD but before I went to my first HHN in 24, I watched every episode just because I wanted to know the general settings. There are a bunch of people that will do the same with AHS. They will either watch it before or after the event.

At least one ticket to Dracula Untold at CityWalk was sold because it was a house and no other reason.

Hmm, a new Blair Witch movie has just been announced for release in September. I actually think there is the potential for a great house there... Just have one that walks around some trees in a circle for hours!
Seriously though, depending on the content of the new movie, it could be a good future IP for the plucking.

It saw Dracula untold for HHN and it was probably the biggest waste of time since half the scenes in the house were deleted scenes from the film, making the house utterly pointless on all levels. God can we never have "commercial" houses ever again?

I was under the impression that the house served as sort of a prequel to the movie.

I'm still kind of foolishly hoping AHS isn't taking center stage this year. I'm starting to think that based on what I've been reading, Legacy's "Shall Not be Named" may literally be the codename for the house that might just not get named until the event begins - that whole "mystery box" concept.

The only codename I was given was "Pumpkin" for Halloween.

And while a "mystery box" house is great for people who are already attending, it's awful for getting people who otherwise don't care interested.

Nope. It was a re-telling of the movie. Aiello got script late in game, interpreted house best they could, and found out most the scenes he liked and included were cut and too late to change out.

I think a "mystery box" house is a great idea, the whole point is to get people to attend to find out what it is. I don't think it would really work for HHN though as everyone would know exactly what it is by 6:05 PM on 9/16. Obviously many in the general public who don't pay attention would still get the mystery box effect but in reality they already do anyway.

I don't really follow AHS but I would assume they keep their stories a little more tightly sealed up to their air date, and would likely be an even worse situation than Dracula was.

Just to clarify, my "mystery box" post was in reference only to the season 6 part of a potential AHS house. Not an entire house. That might not work too well.

Yeah I was kind of just thinking of the "mystery box" idea in general. As for AHS season 6 it would be kind of tricky as I'm sure they would be limited to the season premier episode only.

AHS is actually fairly open, for the most part, in regards to what is happening that season. It's not exactly a subtle show, and once the theme and characters are revealed, it's pretty easy to decipher it. And if you can't figure it out before the premiere, the premier (and second episode) typically telegraphs how things will play out. I think that's why they're staying so tight-lipped this season. The bloom is off the rose, and they know their audience is going to watch without much growth.

That's the difference with a "mystery box" house at HHN. Universal actively markets for new attendees. They need IPs to draw in people who normally wouldn't attend and a "Mystery House" would actively work against the idea of educating your market to drive attendance. A casual theme park going isn't going to spend a thousand dollars on a vacation to see a "mystery attraction." It's too much risk.

Universal HAS to announce all their houses.

Do you think the event will ever get to the point where they don't have to promote everything so much? I mean, we are going into year 26. The crowds almost nightly are insane. It seems like a lot of people are returning guests that come just for HHN. Would love to see some of the marketing budget get handed over to A&D to create even bigger and better houses.
