He's more than a name too. His films have truly earned his reputation. He deserves the film.

I am sure she going to do it, but this is what they are saying.

UPDATE: Well, that was fast. Thanks to E! Online, it seems this is not true after all:

"She hasn't confirmed anything," a rep told me this morning. "Everything you've seen has been tongue-in-cheek."

We all know they're gonna get some no-name puppet while Lucas plays Palpatine behind the scenes.

I'm hoping Disney will have enough common sense to look after its investment. It knows all to well like the rest of us the reason why Episodes 4, 5 and 6 were good compared to 1, 2 and 3.

Looks like we have ourselves a director.

http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/jj-abrams-set-direct-next-star-wars-film-exclusive-74596

J.J. Abrams will direct the next "Star Wars" film for Disney, taking stewardship of one of Hollywood's most iconic and lucrative film franchises, an individual with knowledge of the production told TheWrap.

"Argo" director Ben Affleck was also in contention, another individual with knowledge of the talks told TheWrap.

Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm last year and announced it would make new "Star Wars" films, fans, members of the media and industry executives have speculated about which director would take the job. Abrams' name always came up, but he told Entertainment Weekly in November that he wasn't going to take the job.

He did say "Star Wars" was the first movie that "blew my mind" in terms of special effects.

Lucasfilm Chief Kathleen Kennedy has been courting Abrams, one of the most successful directors and producers in Hollywood -- and a man beloved by fanboys. He runs one of the industry's top production companies, Bad Robot, and created or co-created television franchises like "Lost," "Fringe" and "Alias." He has also directed film spectacles "Mission: Impossible III," "Star Trek" and "Super 8."

The lure of the Jedi was too strong, and it will no doubt complicate his relationship with Paramount, where Bad Robot is a top supplier. Abrams has been feverishly working on "Star Trek Into Darkness," his second Star Trek film since he rebooted the franchise in 2009. "Into Darkness," still in post-production, opens May 18.

Though he has several producing jobs in front of him, Abrams had been uncommitted as a director. He will have to jump right into "Star Wars," which Disney has slated for a 2015 release. "Little Miss Sunshine" screenwriter Michael Arndy is penning the script.

Reached by TheWrap, Lynne Hale, spokeswoman for Lucasfilm, declined to comment immediately. Neither CAA, which represents Abrams, nor Bad Robot immediately responded to requests for comment.

Good to hear! So does this mean we will have a trilogy that when it ends we learn they were all dead and living in limbo

Ugh. Can't wait for all the lens flares.

Such a predictable and boring choice.

I would have preferred Brad Bird or Guillermo del Toro.

I actually really liked Super 8 but more because of the Goonie-like kids than the alien. I won't say that I love JJ...but I will say he's more qualified than Lucas.

Why don't you like him? He's directed some good stuff and I'm excited he's directing this.

Chances were slim you would see Del Toro considering all the movies he has on his plate

Super 8 was good but that was probably Spielberg's influence as Producer helping out. Never saw Star Trek before new movie but I enjoyed it; just lay off the lens flare!

Does Hollywood trust nobody else with Sci-Fi? I mean, it's not bad. It's just predictable.

Yeah, that's also why I'm glad he didn't do it. I'd rather have him working with his own original material, or Hellboy or At The Mountains Of Madness. I also wish he would have done more (or will do) anything with Universal's Monsters but that deal was years ago and probably won't happen now.

Abrams is predictable but I really enjoyed Star Trek (never seeing a movie or tv series until that film) and I'm sure he'll make Star Wars entertaining, but still...Brad Bird!

I think Brad Bird is happier telling his own stories. If he was seriously on the table, I would have loved to see what Affleck could have done. At the very least the action would have been better than the prequels.

Don't blame Del Toro for those. He's on record saying he wants to do those projects, but being a director only goes so far. No studio wants to finance either flick.

As for J.J. Abrams, I'm still cautiously optimistic. Disney/Lucasfilm went with what could ultimately be called the "safest" director. He made the most recent PG-13/franchise revamp/success at the box office/critically successful/fan adored/film based on a property that takes place in space and on various planets. If there was one guy Disney believes to be a safe bet for a space epic genre film, it's Abrams. His most recent blunders have been when the hacks known as Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman are ever allowed to call themselves screenwriters. Thankfully, Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) is writing.
