Did you notice that those particular trees are cabled with lightning rods?

Well, it is boring on here tonight, so I thought i would begin posting some of my favorite theme park plants. In some cases it took me some time and research to discover their names.

This first one is Clerodendron speciosissimum
NhCANOm.jpg

I love how it pops in this picture against the all green.

These are from RPR, but I've seen these plants at VB. I really like their use of air plants:

and then here, they just seem to have something to catch the eye while crossing the entrance bridge:

I assume a lot of folks around here have never experienced a hurricane. For me, the worst I experienced was some 12 years ago with Wilma. When you have steel shutters covering all the windows, you just hear sounds all night/day...anyway, the sounds of trees snapping in half as just crazy sounds...then the trees that rip out of the ground...well, the roots tend to take things like sidewalks, streets, whatever they have grown under....down here, many streets still have tree debris waiting to find its way to a chipper...anyway, this is a pic from RPR:

I assume, my trip was just after Irma. They were fixing the sidewalk on The Monday we were checking out...

It’s interesting to me where they use rebar reinforced concrete and where they do not. I suppose rebar is mostly used in areas that will be trafficked by heavy machinery and trucks.

Interesting! It almost looks like the sections are precast rather than poured in place. Certainly does not look that way when you walk the path. I gotta check that next time I am there.

Here is one of the staples of Orlando’s theme park jungle plants. It’s common name is Lady Palm but most nurseries refer to it by its scientific name: Rhapis excelsa. It is clumping and does what bamboo does but at a far lower height.

just another shot from RP showing evidence of the winds that swept FL's way just prior to my last trip up.

Another throw back... this is what the rest of JP would look like if left to it’s own devices.

this is from the lobby level of RPR, just the other side where we eat Sushi when staying...sometimes grab and go in the morning, but just another 'view' of the area looking towards SF:
