They are steel and they are insulated. Steam lines come to mind. :stunned: Although I would think they are a little large for the intended purpose and I would not think UO would use real steam for an effect.

Edit: Maybe I'll just give it up today.

Is there a chance these trains will be steam powered? I seriously hope not, they take a while for all the water to pour in and get heated up.

No. It will be a cable based funicular system.

Wasn't saying the trains will be steam powered. They are though after all steam trains so we must have a steam effect.

Does anyone know if the effect on the existing engine is steam, smoke machine or another type of effect.

With the lime build up that happens I would assume steam on the current Express. As for real steam their will be in station steam effects.

Reminds me of Everest. But they had to stop using the effect because the condensation kept building up on the ride sensors and causing E-Stops

There is no need for all that lime from the water. Not sure why they aren't heavy filtering the horrid florida water that is used. That said, I doubt they use real steam either. 95 degrees + 80% humidity + hot steam = nightmare discomfort.

While that clearance envelope may not appear quite the right size, distance and angle can be decieving. It's likely there for when they start building the pathway/station as a double check that their construction does not interfere with the rides path. That specific location is likely to be a "close call" and should be a really exciting addition if it is what I think it is!
Hopefully they learned from HRRRockit and are being very careful with the clearance.

Another awesome update, Bob! You're the man!

Going back to the HE discussion for a minute... Maybe I'm not getting it, or overthinking what HTF said. I thought he meant that you won't see the HE in the London side, that it'd only be visible from Hogsmeade. Anyhow, this was my thought:

I don't think you'll see the train's engine when you are at the stations. Trains are long, so it would be believable that you're boarding or getting off the train's wagons at the station's boarding platform, while the engine is a bit further away. And if they have a wall all along the left side of the path from the Hogsmeade archway to the station, it wouldn't break the illusion.

Also, it doesn't look like there will be space any space for a photo op at/by the station. There's no space by Sinbad, so it'd have to be under Dragons, and I don't think they'll go for that.

I would be pretty sad if they took away the HE with conductor that is used for photo ops! It is definite a unique opportunity for visitors. Maybe relocation of it but to scrap it all together would be a waste.

This is what I was thinking too. That the new engine would have some cool effects and you would see it when going into the station and leaving, but you would not see it loading, unloading, or during the ride itself. So it wouldn't be out of place at all.

I can assure you that the current locomotive uses real steam. I have seen the boiler unit that was placed inside it while it (boiler) was still in the shop.

- - - Updated - - -

This looks like insulated ductile iron. It can be used for a variety of things such as chilled water, steam, hot water etc. This could be something modified to the existing utilities and infrastructure in order to build this train station, or it may have something to do with the train ride itself. No telling...

What?!?!?! Last I heard... real steam is very very hot. I have stood next to the train when it blasts out from underneath and it is cool as rain. Real boiler steam is anything but cool. That said, I feel confident that it is done with high-pressure water atomizers:

Im pretty sure this isnt ductile iron pipe and most likely an insulated cast iron pipe. For starters it looks a little on the thinner side to be ductile and also the ductile most likely would have a bell on one end. Second those 90s look like they are welded on there and if it was ductile they would have used those mega lugs laying there on the ground to restrain an MJ 90 to the pipe. At first I thought maybe it was an insulted HDPE fusion type pipe since it was hard to tell from the pictures what it really is.

Bob does it look like those 90 are an iron fitting or polyethylene?

I'll have to check other shots when I get home this afternoon. When I first saw the pipe months ago it looked like poly. Now it appears the 90s are welded on. I'll find the other shots and crop out the welds and post them.

If they are using HDPE you should also be able to see onsite a decent size fusion machine and equipment. The only reason I don't think its HDPE is because those 90s wall thickness is on the thin side. I could be totally wrong though  We don't do much insulated anything down here, or at least the jobs we supply don't.

Perhaps they want to wait until they have more track on site? It's probably easier to bring in pieces of track that are awkwardly shaped before the building is closed up? Just a guess. First post by the way! Long time lurker though!
