Okay, if it were a cable system you would not actually see the cables. Also if there were "two fake engines" (one each in front in back) you would see the engine moving backwards at both stations.

They can try and hide the cables but if we are gonna be able to view the engine, how would we not see the cable. And exactly, seeing a train engine moving backwards doesn't make sense.

On another note, I had a "nice" tour today. Oddly, much of what I saw, wasn't created by the company I was touring. I saw quite a few duplicated props, ad nauseam. I will let you guess why there were duplicates. A hint to one of the multiples happened to involve a sport.

You can see in this video a cable car in action. You will not see the cable, as the car grips it under ground. It is not pulled above the track and the mechanism is for the most part hidden behind the wheels.

I am not sure what you are proposing about the engines... If each train had one engine, the train would leave backwards half of the time. If each train had 2 engines (one each in front and back), the train may appear to leave backwards every time. Aside from making the engine disappear from the back of the train and reappear at the front, what were you thinking?

One car will always take the east side, the other will always take the west side.

To expand a bit on this, these systems tend to also not have active switches on the tracks. The switch is pushed in place by the train that is going from two tracks to a single track. This then enables the train to return to that same parallel track when headed back in the opposite direction.

So to expand more on how this could possibly work. The cable would not need to be directly in the center of the track. The train that takes the east bypass's cable could be off center to the east and the opposite for the west side train. So the cable goes all the way around, from both stations and through both sides of the transfer.

Again this is only an example possibility, and please excuses the crudeness.

The blue and green lines are the same cable, but after reaching each station. So when one moves one direction, the other moves the opposite direction.

Is there anyone on here that logs onto this site that is, to their knowledge, the only person from their country who uses this site? We would love to hear from the foreign members that signed up just because of the Wizarding World.

Hi Teebin. I am from the UK - just about 35 mins of London and know it very well. I've seen a couple of other members on here who are also from the UK. I didnt specifically sign up just for WwoHP but it was certainly a main reason. I love this thread! I just hope all this work will knock Disney into doing something more worthwhile than changing a parade and refurbs.

I thought I would put my two pennies worth in. Old fashioned steam strains do have the ability to run backwards just like a car. Therefore it wouldn't be entirely unplausible that this could happen (however there is an argument that it would be unlikely for a train to run backwards for such a long distance in real life). Given that passengers can't see the train once in the carriage and the rails are largely backstage is this really an issue?

The type of cable system with both cars moving at once and the cross over is pretty similar to the Orient Express at SFMM (less the inclined angle). Sorry some of the pictures are large. Ingenious, yes. But also a older technology that has been around since at least the 70's. USO is just making it a millions times better and cooler. Just my own observation however.

My Prediction is a Dummy engine on the front of HE going from KC to HM that gets hidden once it reaches HM. Illusion will be complete with the existing engine. I feel like the queue will stop short of 9 3/4 and open up once train is in position. In HM i could see it being dark or a "tunnel" in front of the station to block where the engine is supposed to be

Well, You know me, but I'm not sure if there are any other regulars from Norway (I'm actually Danish, but that's another story).

As I told You a few weeks ago, I'm a travel agent, so I also use OU (and, dare I say :look:, other forums) to to get the buzz about what's happening in Orlando (apart from being a themepark-geek). I've been following OU since HP 1.0.

Lots of interesting "personalities" here, some I think would be fun to meet in person.

Yes. And I believe that it will be a very simple yet effective effect. A simple optical illusion using a cool forced perspective brick pattern. But I don't think they will let you actually run at it.

here in chattanooga we have basically the same thing with the lookout mountain incline...pretty cool actually
