Yeah, there's nothing more insulting than being charged for parking at your own hotel.

That is ridiculous, along with those other made up fees (pool, gym, resort fee etc). It is a deceptive practice of charging more than your advertised rate, and should be outlawed. It makes it next to impossible to comparison shop, as you never know what the random fees will be.

Los Angeles is the worst for this. There's a 'tourism tax' on any Hollywood hotel I look at (on top of the standard rate), and parking varies from $15-25 per night.

Sorry to stray off-topic, just a mini rant

Every Loews hotel I've ever been to charges for parking. As long as I know upfront, I'm fine with it. Trust me... when you're paying up to $200 for a Disney value nowadays, parking is being folded somewhere into the charge.

You can still find the values $70-$90 here and there so if parking if folded into that its a real bargain. I just wish the Universal hotels would offer a discount or free parking for AP holders but I do make sure we include this expense in our budget

Just always be sure to do you research on fees before booking to figure out your "true" rate. Resort fees are becoming very common now. The Swan & Dolphin has a resort fee that is stated on the website with the room rate; these fees are only "hidden" for those who chose not to read all the terms of their reservation. Personally, when I am going to pay big bucks for a vacation I read EVERYTHING.

The resort charges for parking as well, but the reasoning behind that (and probably the Loews properties as well) is because are parking is run by a 3rd party company. That is how they make money.

Universal's hotels are Deluxe though. If you compare the pricing with Disney Deluxes most of the time, you'd have to pay parking about 20 times a night to make up the difference.

I don't mind them charging a fee, I'd rather they just combine all the fees into the actual price. I don't like the attempted "hiding" of the fees part. Its like trying to trick the people who don't do their homework. Its sorta like when you're in a store at Christmas time and you see some old Grandmother who wants to buy her grandkids the next playstation 4, and she has no idea what she's doing and the salesperson talks her into buying memory cards, extra controllers, charging stations, what knot. Not cool in my book.

That is kind of like saying the fee is only hidden to those who do not find it, it is still an attempt to hide mandatory fees. I guess not everyone will be needing parking, so not quite as bad as those other made up fees. Aside from the local taxes, if you basically must pay the fee to the hotel in addition to the booking it is an attempt of the hotel to deceive you. And that part of it should be outlawed.

I do not mind having additional fees for optional added benefits, like paying if you USE the gym (not paying extra because a gym is there). But that is only added features, the parking should be free for guests. Come on parking should just be a cost of doing business for a hotel.

Doing your homework on the hotel you plan to stay is one thing, but when trying to comparison shop you must first do your homework on EVERY hotel you may be considering (otherwise there you can not compare).

The parking fees are not hidden and a lot of guests fly into town and don't have cars. They use Mears or Taxis. So they shouldn't be forced to pay parking fees. The reason the fees are there at all is to discourage people who are just going to the parks from avoiding the fees at the garages by parking at the hotels.

I seriously dislike the idea of paying for parking at a hotel your staying at, I think it should always be included in the price. I understand why it is done to prevent parking there instead of at the parks. But surely there could be an alternative way i.e. Hotel passes? Wishful thinking, we were looking at a Universal resort and due to this changed our mind. A really bad example was the peabody at about $16 a day for parking and then resorts fee which meant about $30.00 a day, we are going for a month so that's about $840.00, you can probably guess we booked elsewhere . But as DH said a lot of tourists don't drive whilst visiting.

If that were the case, they could set up the parking so that your room key got you into their parking lot for free.

That's the way it is at The WDW monorail resorts. But those hotels start at over $500/night. I'll pay the $16.

The thing is that the terms are directly below the room rate. They are not hidden away in "fine print." While it would be ideal to not have these fees at all, it is the norm now.

To my understanding, the parking is charged separately as some hotels choose to have the lots and valet managed by a 3rd party. It is charged separately as that is their source of revenue.

Really? For those pedestrian rooms? It's simpler to stay at a Hilton offsite and at least get a lamp on the bed tables. Disney is just too child-proof for my tastes.

But WDW system is so broken. If you say you are eating at th restaurant they still let you in with no problem. I think Uni has it right, don't increase the price of the room for everyone, only charge those using it and it prevents abuse of the system. Which abuse happens at WDW so much, which causes their parking lots to get so crowded if you are there for a real reason you can't find a parking spot.

I do see that there are legitimate reasons to charge for parking. Should not have grouped parking in with those other made up fees. So I'll adjust my position to "pay to use" or "included in room rate", other fees that go to the hotel should be illegal.

I'm not trying to be condescending or anything. Just want to "educate" everyone about resort fees. One of the most annoying parts of my job are the complaints I receive about the resort fee and having to come up with an explanation.

They should not include the parking fee in the cost of the room. Sometimes we drive down and sometimes we fly down. Its nice when we fly down to not have the $15 dollar daily fee. We also always eat breakfast at the Contemporary Hotel when we go to the magic kingdom. You save the parking fee and if you want to after you leave the park you can walk to your car. That in itself is worth the price of breakfast! I have to admit we have also made breakfast reservations and not actually gone, boo I know. But most of time we do go though, plus they have started to crack down on that.
