More specific opening dates have been revealed:
The first phase of Art of Animation to open will be a Finding Nemo-themed wing of suites in May 2012. It will be followed by Cars- and then Lion King-themed wings of suites. The final phase will be the wing of conventional hotel rooms, themed to The Little Mermaid, which will open by December 2012.

^ Those floorplans are cool, the suites look good  Although it would be nice to see a variant without the pull-out bed, but I suppose that's what the pricer suites are like.

Loads of pictures of the area have been posted at Mousesteps:

New concept art of the resort was shown at Destination D today. Here's an article about what was shown, from Inside the Magic.
Everything there looks amazing! I can't wait to see it when it's done!

Wow. The rooms just look more and more tacky. This must be squarely aimed at kids.

I don't think tacky is the right word. It certainly isn't the contemporary, but it's not supposed to be. The rooms should be done in a cartoonish style.

The name says it all.
All that matters is there a value to the room?
Is it close? Perks?
I won't be there but to sleep and shower, so no biggie to me.

I agree that the rooms look a little tacky, but then again it is a value resort.

No, guys. There's a difference. I don't think the other themed rooms in the other resorts are tacky (Pirates, Finding Nemo rooms at CBR, the upcoming "princess" rooms at Port Orleans). Not even the All-Stars are this bad.

And "Art of Animation" doesn't necessarily have to invoke "cartoonish" to me. This looks more like it's competing with the Nickelodeon Kids' Suites, which is definitely "cartoonish."

The good news is that you have 20 other resorts to choose from that aren't cartoonish. This is obviously aiming at families with small children, like the Nick Hotel does.

Obviously. It just sucks to be excited about a new Disney resort and then to see the rooms and be like

That's exactly what I thought of when I saw them. I'm just upset because I'm from a family of 6, so this would have been perfect . . . except for the fact that everyone is in high school or older :mean:
