All of the songs listed and Terror in the Aisles was released in 1984.

What I believe is that he said something about the film "Terror in the Aisles" is the hint. The hint is that it was released in 1984. I believe that when he gave those 3 riddles.

That we are looking for something released in 1984. A song made famous by Johnny Cash in 1984, a Best Selling Album released in 1984, or a Film released in 1984 with a creative force that has passed away within the past 5 years.

And that it will lead us to a Codename. I believe that Hint 2 is the only real hint and the other 2 are red herrings.

He also said the codename will reveal the THEME of the maze.

1984 is the codename and it refers to the George Orwell book.

1984's theme is anti Totalitarianism, or the end result of cummunism run amok. The paranoia that The Thing deals with is an allegory for the Cold War.

1984 = The Thing.

Course I am probably trying to find the clues to fit what I want the answer to be.
EDIT: I am now 100% positive 1984 is the codename. 1984 was the best selling album from Van Halen. Whether 1984 = The Thing let's say I am 65% certain.

In addition to what you said. Last year Murdy was gonna have a David Bowie Inspired Codename for Ash Vs Evil Dead and it was Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) which is never said directly by him.

But when mentioning to him ideas.

When looking no songs were released in 1984 by Johnny Cash and the only film released in 1984 that has someone who was a Creative force who passed was Wes Craven.

Checking hint 2 there were 2 albums that were best selling which were Van Halen (as you stated) 1984 which they formed in Pasadena California in 1972. And Minutemen Double Nickels on the Dime but they formed in San Pedro California 1980. Murdy stated his brother graduated in 1980 which means he started attending 1976. So that doesn't work since the band just formed. Van Halen already formed AND Van Halen is a rock band. Which means they are usually loud.

Welp, looks like it was just the year, not the actual films featured in Terror. Does that throw a wrench in the Thing speculation?

No because the connection is not through "Terror in the Aisles" but through a Book's theme.

1984 - Nightmare on Elm Street directed by Wes Craven.
Terror in the Aisles features no movies from Wes Craven.
The Scream TV series features no direction from Wes Craven.
SCREAM! It's Scream!
Okay, I'm done, I got that out of my system.

I'd take Scream over Halloween any day honestly. Anything to hear "What's your favorite scary movie?" blare while in line, as well as the Trouble in Woodsboro song playing as well.

1984...Lets take those numbers and separate them down the middle

We get 19 and 84. John Murdy was 19 years old when he first started working for USH as a studio tour guide and he is now 84 years old (in theory) \
LOL I give up
*None of this information is factual - John is in his 50's

Which announcement could we be seeing in May? Do you think ST will be the topic of MonsterPalooza or he'll talk more about throwbacks?

My guess is May and June we'll be getting 1 maze announcement each, and 2 for both July and August (that way to get announcements at Midsummer Scream and ScareLA). That being said, probably we'll get AHS: Asylum next month, maybe because if we do get the AHS: Cult scare zone announced at Monsterpalooza, and I'm sure our AHS announcement won't align with Orlando's, similar to last year, then John would probably want to get AHS out of the way in May. That way he can allow the 3 summer months to be filled with the more enticing, anticipated properties.

Double post; SORRY!

If I were to make a hypothetical "schedule" of what mazes will be announced when, this is what I think (and again this is PURELY SPECULATIVE, so if any of you have your own ideas or info that I don't, feel free to critique my list. This is just to give me a vague mental image of how announcements will go this year):

May: AHS: Asylum

June: IT

July: 1.) Trick 'r Treat
2.) The Thing and original concept scare zones (Midsummer Scream)

August: 1.) Universal Monsters and Terror Tram (ScareLA because it could give him the chance to explain what he has in mind and how it will be executed)
2.) Halloween (last because I'm unaware as to when the trailer will be released, which I believe they're waiting for before announcing it, like Insidious 4 last year)

I would switch those around a bit. Switch IT to last/2nd of August due to it bringing in everyone and being huge. Halloween to 2nd of July for SDCC. And The Thing in June for it's anniversary.

I totally forgot about SDCC! And I can see The Thing being announced then.

I could see It being SDCC because they had a presence last year, WB always does a film panel, and Andy Muschietti recently posted on his Instagram hinting that something is coming in relation to the sequel.

Hell, if there's one property out of the ones already announced that's probably big enough to deserve the SDCC spotlight, it's probably either IT or Stranger Things, and since the latter's already been announced...

Halloween is big, but I almost feel like it's too familiar to need the SDCC slot. Maybe that'll be the big "come over" August announcement. Have big title cards like "40 years ago, HE came...Now, at Halloween Horror Nights, He's back again!"

One thing I also didn't take into account is John may choose only 1 of the 2 summer Halloween conventions (Midsummer or ScareLA) to do a maze announcement. Perhaps we may get the other July announcement early in the month before SDCC.

I also realize the argument can be made that WB wouldn't have enough content to validate promoing It: Part Two buuuuut... in 2014 there was an entire secret panel that ended up being promo for the Last of Us movie which we all know is nowhere near even being started as well as announcing "Ash vs. Evil Dead" which at the time was in hella pre-production. So I wouldn't let lack of content rule it out.

I honestly don't even remember if we got a HHN announcement at last year's SDCC. I remember there was a huge gap in the June-July period if memory serves correctly. I hope this year doesn't have a repeat, in that it feels like most of the mazes are rushed to be announced late-July through all of August.
